WACO, Texas – The No. 1-ranked Baylor women’s basketball team can clinch at least a share of its ninth-straight Big 12 regular-season championship with a win against Kansas in Wednesday’s 6 p.m. game at the Ferrell Center that will be televised by FOX Sports Southwest.

The Lady Bears (23-1, 13-0) hold a 3 ½-game lead in the Big 12 standings with five games to play after 15th-ranked Texas was upset by Kansas State, 69-60, on Sunday.

A Baylor win over the Jayhawks (12-12, 2-11) on Wednesday would put the Lady Bears at 14-0 with four games remaining. Even if they lost their last four games, which includes matchups against Texas, Iowa State (19-6, 9-4) and West Virginia (18-6, 9-4), the Lady Bears would do no worse than a share of the title.

While Baylor is gunning for nine straight, it would be the 10th in Baylor’s history. The Lady Bears captured their first crown in the 2004-05 season, on the way their first of two NCAA national championships.

Baylor has been on a remarkable run since the 2010-11 season. During the nine-year span, Baylor’s 298-23 record is good for a .928 winning percentage; the Lady Bears won their second national championship in 2012; and BU has compiled an astounding 148-7 record in Big 12 play.

In the last eight years, BU has also taken home seven Big 12 Tournament championships, with West Virginia handing the Lady Bears their only blemish in the 2017 final.

Baylor also has some impressive streaks alive, including being ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 for 294 consecutive weeks; 87 straight weeks in the top 10; 36-straight wins versus Big 12 opponents in the regular season; and 33 consecutive conference road wins, which is the third-longest streak in NCAA history.

On Wednesday, a postgame celebration with the fans is scheduled if the Lady Bears defeat Kansas. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

Last week, Baylor received 22 1st place votes, and Louisville and Oregon received 3 a piece. It's interesting that not only did Baylor receive the 3 Louisville voters' 1st place votes, but one of the Oregon voters switched to Baylor too. Baylor received 26 1st place votes this week.
