Brewer left game against UTSA because his 'feet were burning'

The field temperate at Baylor’s home game against UTSA on Saturday was around 120º. The actually turf? Over 180º. In other words, don’t take your shoes off.

In the first half against the Roadrunners, Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer threw for 163 yards on 12-of-16 passing with three touchdowns and rushed for 10 yards and another touchdowns. He completed the first half of play and then did not return to the field at all in the second half.

Brewer was seen walking slowly from the sideline after returning there after halftime. The stroll caught the attention of many fans which led to plenty of speculation. According to head coach Matt Rhule during his post game press conference, nothing showed up on x-rays after Brewer complained about his feet burning.

“His feet were hot, yeah,” Rhule said. “He just said his feet were burning. Was there something broken, a sprain, is there – know what I mean? So he just had discomfort, a burning sensation in his feet. Maybe it was just one foot, I don’t know. I kind of got it as we were leaving the locker room and got outside.

Rhule stated Brewer wanted to return to the game but after the dominant first half, there was no need for him to return.

“I saw we were up 35-0, (Brewer) said, I’m playing, so then I went out there and I said, No, you’re not, and he said, I’m playing, and I said, No, you’re not. So finally I won.”

With a scheduled off week and no game this Saturday, Baylor fans will have to hold their breath for the next content against against Rice in Houston on Sept. 21 before they know for sure if Brewer will play. But all indications on Saturday were that he would have returned to lead the offense had the game been in question.

In two games Brewer has thrown for 362 yards, 6 touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 33-of-47 passes, a 70.2-percent completion percentage.

How can we throw while the world keeps turning?
How can we pass while our feets are burning?

Nobody wants a quarterback who gets cold feet.

He is going to get razzed about being pulled because his feet were hot.

Hopefully it was just the temperature of the field. Burning feet can also be a nerve thing which could be the result of a hit. Considering how he was playing until the halftime whistle that seems unlikely.

I wondered about that as well and wondered if the feet were not what needed to be x-rayed.

X-raying higher up like the back would only be warranted if the pain is shooting down to his feet
