Matt Rhule Quote of the Week...
“Well, you know, I’m kind of a private person, I wouldn’t really want to put stuff out you know but I think the impact of it being released has two impacts and the biggest one to me is for our current players you know you can say what you want our current players are kind of walking around like you know in the back of their minds “Is this coaching staff going to be here?” Well, now they know we’re going to be here so let’s get to work, let’s get that out of the way and let’s make sure everybody’s going to class and everybody’s playing football and so I think that was really important for our players and then for recruiting I mean you know this is a great place and it’s not even necessarily that I’m going to be here and the staff’s going to be here it’s also that this is a destination place you know living in central Texas, living in Waco, being at Baylor University, the access to education, the access to world class facilities, elite sports all across the board from tennis to women’s basketball is a national championship caliber program, Scott Drew, everything here is the best of the best and so I hope it tells recruits that yeah, you know what, I’ll probably have other options, I’ve had other options, our coaching staff have had other options, we’re not forced to be here, we love to be here cause this is a great place and I want recruits to know that.”
Baylor’s Key Players
Quarterback #12 Charlie Brewer — The junior quarterback had a solid performance this weekend against Iowa State but it could have still been better. He ended up with 307 yards and 3 touchdowns on 26-of-45 completions.
The entire offensive line — Baylor has got to run the football better and continue to keep the sacks number low. Baylor is still ranked in the top 30 in rushing yards per game and is still averaging a whopping 5.96 yards per carry but the past two games have been rough.
Linebacker #4 Clay Johnston — I think this is a big week for the linebackers for a variety of reasons. Stoping the run, getting off blocks, making open field tackles, and taking up blockers for safeties to get home on plays.
Kansas State Key Players
Quarterback #10 Skylar Thompson — Last year against the Bears, Thompson made a solid impact on the game. He finished 15-of-26 for 149 yards and a touchdown, he also ran for 50 yards and another score. The problem was that he threw two interceptions which helped the Bears greatly.
Running back #34 James Gilbert — The 5’9, 198-pound workhorse running back for the Wildcats is the guys that this team leans on in the rushing attack. He has nearly twice as many carries as the next running back and is averaging a very solid 5.8 yards per carry while having 55 carries.
Defensive end #56 Wyatt Hubbert — The 6’3, 258-pound defensive end is the only Wildcat with more than one sack on the year and he even sat out the game against Mississippi State. Hubert is the type of player that can live in the backfield and make life miserable for quarterbacks and offensive lineman.
Defensive end #51 Reggie Walker — The preseason All-Big 12 defensive end has gotten off to a slow start this year but I expect that to change soon.
Cornerback #12 AJ Parker — Meet Denzel Mims’ matchup for the week. Parker is thought of very highly as one of the better cornerbacks in the conference.
