WACO, Texas - Baylor wins a double-overtime thriller in their homecoming game against Texas Tech, 33-30.
Shot out of the gate: The Baylor defense did an exceptional job as a unit to start the game. On Texas Tech’s first three drives, the defense forced three punts. The Raiders only managed to get off 14 plays on those three drives for 37 yards. After a Charlie Brewer interception on the last drive of the first quarter, the defense managed to hold the Raiders to just a field goal. In the first half alone, the Bears forced two turnovers and only gave up 6 points.
Struggled: Charlie Brewer had a rough game. In the first half, Charlie Brewer completed just 5 of his 11 throws for 53 yards and two interceptions. Baylor also could only come up with three points and 117 yards in the first half. Charlie picked it up in the 3rd quarter with two rushing touchdowns, but he threw a crucial interception inside the 5-yard line at the beginning of the 4th. He finished with 352 yards while completing 24 of his 37 passes. He had no passing touchdowns and three interceptions.
Decisive Moment: JaMycal Hasty’s game-winning 5-yard touchdown run. Nothing else to say here.
MVP: Jordan Williams and Clay Johnston get co-MVP’s for the Bears in this game. Johnston had a forced fumble and an interception. Williams had an interception and a pass deflection that led to an interception. It’s no question that these two played their hearts out and both had huge plays for the Bears all game long.
Key stat: Texas Tech and Baylor combined for 6 turnovers. Each team had 3 turnovers a piece, and they all seemed to come at pivotal points in the game. This was the story of the game. Both teams struggled to take care of the ball. Baylor just so happened to come up with turnovers just when they needed them.
