Baylor junior defensive lineman James Lynch was named the 2019 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year by the Big 12 Coaches on Wednesday afternoon. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound junior led Baylor’s defense with 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss on the season including 7.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss in conference play.
Lynch’s 10.5 sacks led the conference and his 15.5 tackles for loss ranked third. Lynch finished the regular season with 34 tackles, five passes defended, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
In his three-year career at Baylor, Lynch has accumalated 17.0 sacks, 29.0 tackles for loss and 93 total tackles. His 17.0 sacks is a Baylor school record for a career.
