BREAKING: Baylor RB John Lovett enters transfer portal

On Monday afternoon Baylor senior running back John Lovett announced his intenions to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. In four seasons at Baylor Lovett rushed for 1,803 yards on 355 carries with 17 touchdowns.

In 2020, Lovett rushed for 130 yards on 45 carries with one touchdown while catching nine passes for 49 yards and another score. 

Lovett was Baylor’s leading rushed in his first three seasons on campus under former head coach Matt Rhule. As a junior in 2019, Lovett carried the ball 103 times for 655 yards and five touchdowns.

The news comes a day after senior quarterback Charlie Brewer also announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

First ever 4-time single digit. A matt rhule favorite. Appreciate all the work he did for baylor running between the tackles-mostly without any hole. Was even willing to try safety. Hope he can find a good fit close to home and have a great fifth season.

I'm planning on focusing on the KU game next year as our shot at a Big 12 win and I'm just enjoying the ride at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few more seniors transfer. It is what it is, they have been around for 4 years and want something new for their final year.

We have a pool of average running backs, no better than 8th or 9th in the Big 12, with or without Lovett who was also very average for Big 12 standards. Not a huge loss one way or another. We'll just replace him with another average RB.

Just wish these guys well. No reason to speculate as to why they are leaving. Most are seniors and haven't proven they are NFL caliber. They are capitalizing on a 1 yr chance to get another shot at what wasn't proven in their first 4 years. Keep chasing the dream and at least they have a college degree.

I don't think this is a fair depiction of Lovett, who until he was Fedora'd this year, had averaged 5.4 yards per carry playing behind below average lines his entire career. Lovett is a good back, and he showed that in a real offensive system. I suspect he'll do so again next year.

has a lot to do with OL. It's why Derek Henry continued a tradition in the NFL and got all his OL rolexes among other gifts when he broke 1,000 yards a year or two back. I think Qualan/Jordan Jenkins(who had 10 TDs in one game!), and Squirl could be great combo with Tate also being another good back. Gotta get an OL to at least be average for them to display their talents.
