The 2017 Class: Tight Ends

The tight end position will evolve drastically under the direction of offensive coordinator Matt Lubick from what Baylor fans are use to seeing. The two prospects signed by Baylor meet the versatility and athletic ability coveted by Lubick and both could possibly receive playing time during their freshmen seasons. In 2016 under Lubick, Oregon tight ends 71 passes for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns.

BJ Thompson‍  (6-6, 210) | England (AR) High School
Colt's Take: Baylor fans better watch for Scott Drew snooping around the football locker room if he ever sees a copy of Thompson's basketball highlights. The true definition of a mismatch on the offensive side of the ball, Thompson was Baylor's priority at the tight end position and they got him. Oh, and he will play some defensive end as well.

Matt Rhule's Take: B.J. is freakishly athletic for his size. His length and explosive leaping ability make him a factor in the red zone. His relentless nature gives him the ability to be a great pass rusher.
Tyler Henderson‍  (6-4, 225) | Kyle (TX) Lehman High School
Colt's Take: Henderson played a bit of everything at the high school level and he will be moved around at the collegiate level as well. From his film as a wildcat quarterback, Henderson moves like a running back with the ball in his hands. This was a big get for Matt Rhule, flipping the talented prospect from Oklahoma State less than a week before signing day.

Matt Rhule's Take: Tyler is an extremely versatile player who did everything in his high school career. His background will allow him to develop into a tight end who can catch, run, block and line up in various positions all over the field.
