Spent close to 25 minutes talking with a rep who tried every persuasive trick in the book to get me to keep the cable. Simply I told her, there was pure crap on TV. Honestly I can simply get the DVDs of my favorite shows and watch the others online. I mainly view the reruns of my favorite shows when I have the tv on anyways.

Congrats!

The "cord cutting" thread probably was another helpful missive we should have moved over here.

When I returned all my cable gear, the nice lady looked up my account and said, "Can I ask you why you're canceling...oh, yeah. I see now.". She couldn't believe how much it cost either.

I moved to OTA antenna (redundant) and an Amazon FireTV box. Still nothing on, but cost me $200/mo less to find that out.

Yeah, was doing the math and I just couldnt believe how much it was costing me to use something I could easily watch online. My internet bill is still nuts. Im paying about $75 for 100 mb/s

I still need easy access to college football and basketball. My $52/month Direct TV package runs out next week, so I'm about to call and get them to extend it. If not, Dish has a good $55 package for 2 years that has the necessary sports channels.

I wish Netflix would stream sports. Would make everything so much easier.

Who's using YouTube TV, Vue or Sling for live sports? Do you like it? Need something in the next 2 to 4 weeks.

Very happy with PlayStation Vue. Cut my bills in half.

I recently cut the cord too. The house is running roku with access to amazon prime, Netflix, and youtube. I do need something to access sports this upcoming season. Have you been able to get all BU games?

There is a fairly extensive discussion around cutting that cord on here. We've beaten most of it to death.

For those looking for sports, the Playstation VUE upgraded option at around $50 has gotten me everything I watch but out of market NFL games. Not sure what it doesn't offer you.

I've been able to catch anything I haven't attended personally. I have season tickets to football and basketball. It wouldn't shock me if there was a random basketball game that I wouldn't have seen without being there. But I've been very pleased. It also has given me access to English Premier League as well. Someday, the NFL will realize the crap ton of money that they could make if they opened up the Sunday ticket directly to streaming subscribers.

Plus, outside of Houston, you can't get any Astros games if you have cable. So why should Astros fans like me pay huge prices for cable.

I'm actually surprised to hear you say they tried to keep you as a customer. I called the retention number and they just said ok when I told them I wanted to leave. I thought that was a huge change from the days of "we'll put you back on the 12-month intro price and call us back in a year to get yourself back on it" pitch I received for so many years.

Yes.

Also works with any number of devices. In addition to the PS4 I use an Amazon Firestick

You've got PSVue on your roku? This makes things a lot better. Now I just need to find a way to record.

VUE works on multiple platforms. Very easy to use. And it has some DVR functionality. My daughter uses it to record and watch Doc McStuffins.

I use PSVue on Amazon FireTV boxes. I've got Amazon Prime, so I get most of that stuff too. A Netflix acct rounds it out nicely, and they all play over the FireTX boxen.

PSVue allows you to record by simply telling it to "Save for later". It saves it to the cloud, so there's nothing local.

I've really enjoyed it. There have been minor issues with lagging or pausing (I believe Sony didn't appreciate the growth they were going to get, and are upgrading their transcoding end), but nothing I can't live with.

The price is going up by $10/month here shortly, but that's because they're adding in the local channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, etc). I set up an antenna to get those (an uncompressed HD signal is muy lovely). It's still cheaper than cable, and easier to use.

I take my cheapo Fire Tablet with me pretty much everywhere. There's some "Mobile Restricted" stuff, but it's mostly non-sports related. The live TV is watchable almost everywhere.

Running Kodi on the FireTV is another topic entirely....

I found Vue to have far fewer issues with lagging and dropping streams compared to Sling. As in almost nothing noticable.

Same here. Can watch Ranger, Mavs, and still have 40 channels I don't need--but for way less than half of one of the big monopolies.

Literally just this week got my Kodi/FireTV working again after about of year of just not using it.

I upgraded Kodi to the latest 17.3 (I think) and run Elysium to get all movies, TV shows, etc. and it has been working great.

Are you having specific issues? Perhaps I can point you in the right direction.

Nope. It's running just fine.

I was just here for the age of Napster. Kodi, of course, started out as a project to allow Xbox users to use their gaming consoles as media servers. As these things are wont to do, it got ported and forked until it became the go-to app for "on the couch" viewing of all the delights the Internet stores.

Of course, most of this content is someone else's intellectual property. The plugins do nothing more than query and display the results of repositories already available (rightly or wrongly) by other means. However, the plugin developers are now finding themselves as the targets of vigorous prosecution as "pirates".

I mentioned Napster, because this approach is ultimately fruitless. It begins a never ending game of whack-a-mole where rights holders sue, developers fork and enhance, content decentralizes, and systems get a touch more complex.

The current Kodi environment is a little scattered.

PS VUE here too. Used Roku (broke), Amazon Fire TV (was ok), and now love the latest Apple TV with Vue app.

You have my exact setup.

Cut cable and went Vue. Have either FireTV or stick on every TV. Also have Prime, Netflix, and Kodi.

It is marvelous. I have yet to be unable to watch anything I wanted, including live sports.

I can third the PS Vue, Amazon Fire TV, Prime, and Netflix combo. I don't use Kodi so I can't speak for that, but I use mlb.tv along with a VPN service like unblocker-us to watch the Astros.

I recommend the Fire TVs over the Firestick. They both work, but the firestick lags on menus and doesn't put out 4K while the Fire TV does. It just has better processing power and to me is worth the price difference.

Cut the cord 2ish years ago, just started PSvue 2 weeks ago via recommendations from past cord cutting threads on here. Has anybody had issues with "my shows" (essentially your dvr if i understand this right) where the DVR doesn't start at the start of the show? Is there anyway to have it start minutes/hours early/later than what is on the guide? Been missing some content.

Also, to the person who said VUE is adding CBS/NBC/Fox, any link to that? I just put up an antenna (picture is awesome btw) and ordered a TIVO Roamio OTA DVR to record NFL/Sports/Events broadcast on those channels. It wasn't cheap, but I will probably still keep b/c there are 3-4 months a year I would like to cancel PSVUE during non football/basketball seasons.

I think PS Vue must negotiate with every local network affiliate individually.

Dallas area had everything except ABC but I just got a note today that they have it.

yup, Houston was the same way except we didn't have CBS until a couple weeks ago

Apparently the big 4 are owned by groups so if they have negotiated with the group that owns one of your big 4 then you will have that channel.

The only way to record early that I am aware of is to record the show before it - I haven't have much of an issue with this except with live stuff. You can use your PSVue login to watch most shows via the channel's app if they have that option. I honestly record very little nowadays and just go the app route.

To those of you with PS Vue, I see on the website that it gets Fox Sports Southwest, but does it also get the FSSW alternate channels, for times when, for example, Baylor and the Mavericks play at the same time and one of those games gets moved to one of those channels?

I have not seen the alternative feed on my channel line up.

The do have multiple feeds of Big10 network (just fyi)

FS1 FS2 and FSSW are part of my package which is one step above the minimum - about $44 a month

Vue itself doesn't have the alternate, but it grants access to the FSGO app, which I believe has all feeds including alternates. I use the app instead of Vue on occasion.

Good point

also the "Watch ESPN" app

Also many of the streaming devices will let you download those apps, so you can get the FSGO app to TV and not just a tablet or phone
