Breakfast at Pancake Pantry (near Vandy/Belmont campuses). Be prepared for long lines but well worth the carbs.

The original Hattie B's Fried Chicken is good casual -

If you are from Dallas you may want to skip as they have opened in Deep Ellum

There are a million hotels downtown, huge amounts of tourists so all options available. We were there recently for a weekend and stayed at the W and it was nice, had a cool outside bar on a top floor. Walkable to downtown area.

If you like eclectic dining, we ate out on the east side at a place called Lou. Little old house with a patio. Natural wine focused. Had a great meal, were there like 2 and a half hours. Not a place that is in a hurry.

Tons of places around downtown, though

Smiling Elephant is one of the best restaurants I've been to. About the only place I really steer towards. Tons of good options.

Maybe seem corny, but we really liked Miranda Lambert's restaurant ... forget what it is called.
