Just posted a new Ranch Report to my Substack.
Please give it a read and subscribe if you wish.
I'll be rejoining the Premium Board now that football season is back and will start posting there once my check clears the bank!
But for now, enjoy on Cory Chase Chit Chat!

He was one of those people you thought would live forever.

We gave him a good send off this morning.
Nice crowd of old-timers and ranchers.
A life well lived.

The rope on his casket was a nice touch.
And he was buried with his cowboy hat.

Somebody recalled that they asked him how you get to live to be 100.
He said, "Get 100 cows and try to raise them."

What a beautiful tribute, Pecos. I enjoy ready about your west texas family and adventures. I bet Sonny had some great stories.

I'm a mutt - city slickers would call me a cowboy cause I wear jeans and boots everyday and love to get my hands dirty. (No reason to pay another man to do what I can!) But ranchers/cowboys would call me a city slicker because I sit in the AC most days and they know from the handshake I don't have enough calluses on my hands to remotely qualify.

That said, I have extended family near Midland (Garden City area) and family up in the Panhandle so West Texas has always felt like a second home to me. My grandfather had a bit of hankering for stories on cattle ranching, especially when it related to Charles Goodnight who was - lemme make sure I get this straight - my great-great-great uncle......I think? (John Wesley Goodnight was the son of Henry Goodnight, one of Charles' brothers. So that'd make Charles the uncle to John Wesley and John Wesley is my great great grandfather so maybe it's just "great great uncle".)

I didn't grow up in West Texas but I still joke that West Texas is in my blood.

You didn't grow up in West Texas, but you get here as much as you can!
