Just wanted to warn people about going to the AMC Galaxy 16 in Waco how filthy that place is. I had a rat crawl over me the other night I was there inside the theater, lights came on after the movie and we see a bunch of them running around the room. Naturally we went outside to the lobby to find an employee but of course there wasn't a single employee in the whole building. After talking to a manager the next day she basically told me "I wasn't there so I don't know what happened". I would seriously not take any small children to that place unless you want to be concerned with them getting bit, the management refuses to apologize or even admit that this may be an issue. Just a heads up for everyone.

That doesn't sound half as bad as the Ivy Twin was.

Go online and complain. Call AMC. Lots of ways to get ahold of them. Id start by phone or email.

They should capitalize on this and have special screenings of "Willard" and "Ben".

Oh I've been going medevil on their ass. Having a rodent problem is one thing, but having a disrespectful and dismissive manager is a whole other deal for me. I had the health inspector out there the following morning and I've already raised hell with corporate and I'm currently trying to get a local news station to pick up the story, considering the theater is going to be packed for the biggest opening weekend of the year...

That strikes me as strange. That has recently been converted to a high end type theater with a bar, automated self serve coke machines and a new Imax area.

That Galaxy 16 was by far the best theater in the Waco/Temple/Killeen area back in the day. Any big movie came out, there's where I wanted to go see it. But that was like 20 years ago. Everything sucks now.

They should just have a special promotion. Bring a cat with you on Tuesdays, get in free.

That's some serious 3D action.

As was said, they dropped some serious coin on that theater a year or so ago and it looks nice as far as the megaplex theaters go...at least on the surface.

I typically go to the one in Woodway because it's easier to get in and out of. I don't know how long it will stay open. For years, I've kept thinking it's on the verge of closing but it stays open. It's not a great theater but it's rarely busy and the sound/video is fine so I stick with it.

We go to the one out by Woodway as well. Close to where we live. My hunch is that there will be a couple mega cinema's built out on 35 around 340 and 35 area and perhaps the Hewitt 35 area and those will close down the Galaxy and Hollywood. (The type like you see on 35 outside of Austin etc.). Just like when the Hollywood and Galaxy came along they shut down the Shulman and the whatever the most state of the art one in it's day was called on ValleyMills by the old Walmart. Again I know of no plans for this. I just suspect with the continued growth and development that is coming. But hell due to the continued population growth perhaps the Galaxy and Hollywood would survive even if those types of theaters did get come to the Waco area.

Agree on all counts. There will be significant development along 35 in coming years. The future of theaters is less in the theater itself and more general entertainment venues. A recent one in Houston I went to had about 12 screens, a bowling alley, huge arcade, laser tag, a big sports bar with bar games (darts, pool, shuffleboard, etc), and a full service restaurant adjacent to the bar. That business model makes a lot more sense than a theater that's isolated to only the ability to show movies.

Honestly, if I owned the one in Woodway, I'd sink the money into retrofitting it to meet the above, or at least close. If they did that, I'd think they'd secure their future. Then again, they are probably just milking every bit of cash flow out of the current one without reinvesting and will dump it when the above (inevitably) gets built.

I always found Galaxy 16 to be an overcrowded cesspool. I would highly recommend going to the theater out in Woodway (I forget the name). It's more expensive but it's downright luxurious compared to Galaxy 16.

Does the Pied Piper still live in Hamlin? They may want to contact that guy.

If the rat made you spill your drink and popcorn I'd definitely ask for a comp and . . .

. . . wait, that was the thread about Ashley and Thanksgiving.

[there's also a small downsized theater in the strip mall between Waco Drive and Franklin-talk about "ratty" (in a different way). It's a "dollar" (??) theatre with limited show times and one employee selling tickets and then doubling as snack vendor--but if you miss first run movies, it will show them in a about a 2-3 month delay. Seems like it's called "Waco 6" (for number of screens) or something

REALLY low budget, but the few times I've gone to see a first run movie when I missed it the first time (and I was bored), I just adjusted my expectations and enjoyed the movie--not the panash.

Never croweded, obviously. No old men in trench coats but probably not where you'd want to drop off a bunch of young kids. And if the movie is not good, you can head down the sidewalk one direction to Jason's for a sandwich or the other to view the new models of lawn tractors and accessories at the Tractor Supply lot.

Only in Waco . . .

and as for Christmas being the busiest day . . . true.

But tonight I just saw an television ad for a Tom Hanks/Sandra Bullock new flick that has a January 12 release date. Maybe the industry is moving away from Christmas as THE date of all dates. ( or maybe it's only reaching Waco by January 12 (Hanks/Bullock are the two best in the guild for us old geezers.). Meryl Streep has a new one coming out as well. She IS for senior citizens--but she can flat out act.

And redevus to a fax paux from a year ago when i didn't recognize "Sith" (???). I won't go see the Star Wars release since I've never seen one of them yet. I DID lay out about $200 dollars for my grandson's Christmas presents today--anything and everything Star Wars related.

Sad though, the youngest one is only 3 and is just now seeing reruns with his Dad at home. Star War action figures and toys all over Toy'R Us and Walmart but can't find a single toy figure of "Chewbaca". Evidently ole Chewy was never so popular that he merited his own line of merchandise.

If anybody knows any major store or even Star Wars specialty stores that might have ANYTHING "Chewbaca" let me know. I'm a spoiled granddad and would drive to Austin or Dallas to find something to please my grandson.

The new Cinemark theaters are rather cool. They've replaced the regular seating with lounge chairs. Most of the theaters don't have all that many seats any more, but you can reserve your seat when you buy the ticket. Means you don't have to be early and can know right where you're sitting.

And the seats are quite comfortable as well -- with good views and lots of space.

After being a dumptster fire for a long time, Temple has ended up with a nice setup. The mall has lots of screens though it's getting a bit long in the tooth. The Cinemark is as described above. And there's a locally owned theater in Belton that beat Cinemark to the comfortable/reserved seat thing.

Can I bring my therapy rat to these new theatres? I have a note from my doctor.
