Absolutely incredible.
Musk also owns Tesla, so I imagine both a little ego and a little marketing are involved.cowboycwr said:
What was the point of putting the car in there? Just because Musk wanted to have an actual payload for his rocket test?
Yeah I know that. I still don't get why shoot it up there. Especially if some are saying it will just break apart and cause space debris which could then be hazardous to future missions.Yogi said:Musk also owns Tesla, so I imagine both a little ego and a little marketing are involved.cowboycwr said:

because they were hoping to put it in orbit around Mars but overshot the orbit. It'll get destroyed in the asteroid belt.cowboycwr said:Yeah I know that. I still don't get why shoot it up there. I have looked but really found no reason he put it in there other than because he could.
which still is not an explanation of why.trey3216 said:because they were hoping to put it in orbit around Mars but overshot the orbit. To McGregor? Not much to see in my experience. Anyone else?
Not much to see. You can't even get into the complex unless you have authorization to be there. It's an awesome setup though.Gruvin said:nothing much was visible when i have driven by in the pastquash said:El Oso said:

Great. Now researchers believe the car will crash into Earth or possibly Venus.

Read a cool story about this.
It said it cost around $32,000 per lb of cargo (space station / satellite etc) when they used the old Saturn rockets from the 60s / 70s
The reason for the space shuttle was to lower that cost, and it did. The goal was $700 per lb but the results were closer to $2,500 per lb. A huge improvement over Saturn.
Space X looks like it will come in around $570 per lb
