As many BF.com posters are aware, I posted regular updates on the adobe house my blue-eyed bride and I were building out on our ranch near Fort Stockton.
Happy to report that we are done, and the house is very much liveable.
Here is a photo narrative of how we did it, using traditional adobe methods taught to me by two Mexican-Americans some 35 years ago.

Unlike most people, we actually look forward to having visitors.
Sometimes we go for two days and don't talk to another human being. Now, that may sound good on the surface, but you better have a strong marriage if you are going to live out here, because you will be spending a LOT of time together.

But we like it.

Helped an aunt in Corrales NM add a room to a house using adobe. As you note, there is something special about building from the very dirt you stand on.

Very good.
We got the new "mini splits" that are all the rage in Europe and Australia.
Very efficient system, housed in an ultra-insulated dwelling!!!
Quash, the dove count is off the charts. We are just over run with the birds.
Very dry, though. We need some rain to get a spring hatch or we won't be getting new ones here in time for us to shoot them.

Yup, and interesting, too. Met him at a showing of Return to Giant in Dallas. Turns out his wife is friends with an old GF.

The project was well along when we met up for enchiladas at Mi Casita.
We were finishing out the kitchen, so the structure was up, finished out, and all we needed was to get the countertops poured.
Right now we are struggling to get a plumber to finish the washing machine connections. They are all in the oil field.

We needed a minor repair to my blue-eyed-bride's GM car. The dealer can't look at it until March 26, and I called him a week ago.
There are no motel rooms in Fort Stockton, and the Domino's Pizza is paying delivery drivers $20 an hour because they can't get anyone at the regular rate.
Anyone who wants a job can get one in Pecos County.
If you have a commercial driver's license (CDL) you can drive a water truck starting at $20 an hour, with a $3000 bonus if you'll stay with the company for 90 days.
It is just crazy, but everyone has a job!!!

I met Mr. W at a movie showing in Baylor. I took my dad and we both enjoyed the movie and meeting the man behind the movie. It got dad talking a lot about the old days with his grandfather.
