How long do you want to ignore this user?
On March 1st, I was surplused from my job. I have until end of April to find an internal job but so far no luck. I am looking for tips/advice on the job hunt because I am not very good at this.

Yes, I have been networking as best I can, applying to jobs via LinkedIn and Ziprecruiter. So far just a few calls but nothing more. I am going to a career fair tonight here to try to network some more.

I work for a major telecommunications company in the Austin area. My specialty is in product development, project management, vendor management. Thanks for your help.

Check indeed.com as well. You'll get some more job-specific matches.

Looking for work is a full time job, often with overtime. 'Maintain your daily routine, as if you were working. 'Network' with everyone you know, including former bosses. Employed friends are your best friends. Expect to take a pay cut to get into a new slot. Look closely at your resume. Shorter is better. It probably needs fine tuning for each different position that interests you. Figure out how your skills apply to positions totally different to what you have done in the past.

The most important thing is to stay positive, including with family.

Good luck as you go forward.

So I have a positive update.

I have until end of April to find an internal job and one is looking promising.

-My old manager knows the hiring manager and gave me a good referral.
-I interviewed directly with hiring manager on Friday, March 23 for about 45 mins.
-He told this other manager that he liked my experience and my discussion at the interview. My only weakness is in lack of experience in this field.

-Last Wednesday, he posted a new job req and an hour later told me to nominate for it and that he wanted to interview me again. The job req lines up a lot with my experience and I don't think that is a coincidence.

-The 2nd interview is TBD. Could be in 2 weeks, could be tomorrow. I am not expecting a formal 2nd one b/c this guy's calendar is literally booked 8-5 and he only has one employee in my location. I think it's going to be more of an impromptu "come up and chat" invite.

I feel like I am the front runner for this job, I just want to nail the 2nd interview to remove any doubt he has. One thing going for me is that unlike most prospects, I would be collocated with the hiring manager in the same building. I want to find the best way to bring this up as a positive.

I would appreciate any other thoughts, advice, what to say or NOT to say next time. I feel like I at am about the 10 yard line and just need to punch it in.

Thanks - JB.

To be accurate, the job req is one that he had internally but had not posted to the jobs board.

He posted it last Wednesday and then told me to nominate for it. The job closes for nominations one week later next Wednesday (4/4).

Step 1) dont waste time on those job finding apps, they dont work, find a whole bunch of friends that can help you and beg them for help. Just about the only way to find a good job is through a personal reference.

Step 2) when you ignore step 1 use the app to your advantage. If you find a job you like or want take your resume and word it in such a fashion that it matches almost exactly to the posting. That will at least get them past the key word searches.

I hope it works out for you. When I was looking I found it was REALLY easy to get down.
