Most of what we have discussed movie-wise has been major studio stuff. Much of it great, but what about the small screen (not TV). Low budget, Art House flicks, etc.

First film of Robert Rodriquez (Spy Kids, Sin City, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) that he made himself with friends with his own money. Very good and launched a career. Remade in English with Antonio Banderas a few years later

Total budget of $850,000. A serious cult classic racing across country for pink slips in a primer grey '55 two door sedan and Pontiac GTO.

You might get in on a technicality as indi, but Bruce Willis and John Travolta this is not an under the radar pic

Now Reservoir Dogs fits the bill perfectly

I also liked Lone Star with a young and unknown Matthew McConaghey (sic) and Chris Cooper.
John Sayles produced and directed. Very good, and too darned close to the truth for some folks.
