Get your votes in on the last two standing. there can be only one.

The Waiting vs. Refugee

I have another tournament planned but will wait a while. Jump in if you have one in mind. Yes, Stranger it might just be Tommy James and the Shondells or one of their counterparts in early, early Rock 'N Roll history.

Since I really don't know about either song (have never heard Waiting) I'll not bother voting. As for future matchups, some suggestions:

British dominance
Beatles vs. Rolling Stones
Animals vs. Kinks
Zombies vs. Yardbirds
Dave Clark Five vs. Herman's Hermits
Peter & Gordon vs. Chad & Jeremy
Seekers vs, Hollies
The Moody Blues vs. The Who

. . . and the American wave
Elvis vs. Chuck Berry
Buddy Holly vs. Little Richard
Beach Boys vs. Byrds
Buffalo Springfield vs. Sly & the Family Stone
Otis Redding vs. James Brown
Aretha Franklin vs. The Supremes
Four Tops vs. Temptations
Jimi Hendrix vs. Carlos Santana
Ray Charles vs. well nobody can match him

And may I suggest a format change? Instead of launching 4 threads at once (very confusing and actually promotes apathy) just do one matchup at a time. Tally it, then move on to the next bracket. Just my opinion.

As for Tom Petty, if he hadn't overdosed and died he wouldn't have drawn much interest.

Actually the one thread bracket had the least participation. But I might do pool play and integrate it with stars as votes.

The point isn't really a poll for votes. It is also a discussion.

As for not liking Tom Petty, just skip the thread. Easiest thing in the world to do.

Naw. Happy guy. Wonderful parents. Wonderful wife and marriage. Just always thought Petty was extremely overrated. I won't elaborate more.

We all have a few of those.

My overrated list is another's favorite.

Can't stand the Beach Boys and I'm not in love with Springsteen.

Dead Heads and Parrot Heads are cult members.

Out of roughly 170 SiriusXM music stations there are about 18 dedicated to a band or singer. Tom Petty is one of those as is Bruce (not much of a fan), and Buffet (good in moderation), and the Dead (don't get the ________ (City) 1978 bootleg recording thing but I have a couple of albums in my rotation).

Have to go along with most of that. Beach Boys haven't put out anything decent in fifty years. Even in their heyday they only sang vocals and their instrumental tracks were played by Glen Campbell, Hal Blaine and the Wrecking Crew.

Parts of Springsteen's first two albums were good (though now dated). Both albums were released before he became famous. Everything since has a narcissistic parody of the first two albums. Maybe a Napoleon complex, who knows?

Everything about Bruce also describes Garth Brooks. Two decent albums then thirty years
of narcissistic ego with nothing new.

As for Jimmy, he took a few little pirate ditties and turned it into a capitalistic cult enterprise. Nothing like churning out money.

As for the Dead . . . . What does a Deadhead day when he's not stoned?

The Petty station didn't show up on SiriusXM until after Tom died. Same with Elvis. He's much more popular dead than the last few years he was alive.

This fascination is why they make Fords and Chevrolet's. Not everybody wants the same thing.

I stand corrected. I assumed it was new because they really started promoting the station shortly after his passing,

Tough choice.

I'll go with Refugee since it was often their concert finale and it took them about 100 takes to record.

That's a solid choice, but I would have to go with Highway to Hell 4th. Thunderstruck 3rd. Hells Bells 2nd. Shook me all night long 1st.

The Two Cellos and the bluegrass version of Thunderstruck are really good. Chris Farley reading the Shook me all night long lyrics as poetry is one of my favorite bits of his on Saturday Night Live.
