Fun with Will Ferrall in Old School - but kinda a beating now - huge player one time

Styx and REO are the kings of not holding up to me.
I will say that I was never much if a Foreigner, Def Leopard, or Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran fan. So, I am out on discussions if those bands hold up.
Jethro Tull. Saw Ian Anderson in Dallas a couple of years ago. He can no longer stand on one leg or hit the high notes on any of his songs. He can still play the flute. And he insisted on playing his entire new album for 45 minutes before he played anything we'd ever heard before. He sucked.

Not a band, but I have not enjoyed Kid Cudi's music nearly as much as I did when I was younger. Really used to mean something to me. Not sure what happened.
REO Speedwagon. I hear their old stuff today and wonder "what was I thinking?".
About half of the Police stuff seems pretty bad now

Ha. At one time, I would have loved to have gone to see them. That 15 minutes to get there tonight is just a bit too much now
I used to listen to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Molly Hatchet, Ratt and a few others. I may listen to a Zep song rarely but never the rest. Otoh, I still listen to Rush, Pink Floyd and Tom Petty pretty often.

I have a 15 year-old who keeps my music leaning metal. He has the satellite radio over to Ozzy's Boneyard. My wife takes them to a dozen concerts a year. I am not big on crowds but will go for the right band/singer. I have aways had wide tastes in country, rock, pop, a little R&B, and bluegrass. I lost the 70's rock bands that sold out around 1980. Styx, REO, and Journey. Those I moved on. I still today listen to all the stuff I used to listen to at 10, 15, 20, 30, etc. Headed to my car now. AC/DC, Molly Hachet, Allman Brothers, Clint Black, George Strait, and other CDs are all there waiting.Limited IQ Redneck in PU said:

Used to love Pearl Jam. Cant make it through most of their songs anymore. Not that they are bad...just a change in taste, I suppose.
Fuel. Their oldies are still good but their new stuff is just...not.
Third Eye Blind. Still one of favorites of all time but their recent stuff- with a few exceptions from their 2015 album, Dopamine- is just not very good.

I can't listen to classic rock radio because they only play the big hits of the day. There was such a wealth of incredible music from those eras that gets forgotten by all but a few because it's far too easy to satisfy the big cultural common denominator.
So I dig through all the vast archives of rock history and constantly search for the juicy stuff that gets left behind and put it on a big flash drive to play at random in the car. Best radio station ever.

PS Some bands that you almost never hear on "classic rock" radio:
And I may get roasted for this, but my wife got The Best of 3 Dog Night. I was surprised at how many hits those guys had. They were extremely popular when I was at BU in 70-74, but all you hear now is "Joy to the World"
What about "One" and "Nobody", not to mention "Eli's Coming" and "Out in the Country"? I KNOW they didn't write their songs, but they picked good material by good writers like Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman and Laura Nyro. Gotta give 'em props for good taste.
- Little Feat (they were freaking AWESOME)
- Harry Nilsson (My God, that man could write and sing a song)
- Uriah Heep (not awesome, but had a few good songs that you never hear anymore, like "Sweet Lorraine")
- Randy Newman (I dare you to pull out "Rednecks" off his Good Old Boys LP and play it today)
- Grand Funk Railroad (all that you hear is "Closer to Home" or "We're An American Band" but they had some other songs that still rock
- Alice Cooper (anything other than "School's Out" doesn't get played. What about "Caught in a Dream" or "Halo of Flies" ?)
- Spirit (I wish they would play the entire LP The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, especially "Nature's Way"

Saw Three Dog Night last year at the fair. they can still play, but they introduced some middle aged people as their kids who had joined the band.
Three Dog Night is definitely a group that deserves more air time on classic radio.
