Things have been really hopping out here in our country west of the Pecos for several months. Here's a look at what it is like to be in the middle of it.

My son's inlaws ranch near Ozona and it is the same or worse. the oil companies have taken over every hotel and available space to rent. Old geezers with 5 acre ranchettes have bladed them off for "RV parks" with minimal amenities and are getting $600 a month. Apparently beats social security.

It's all oil field workers here. They bring their RV with them, then move on to the next boom town when this one plays out.

Informative post. Thanks for the pics and description. Just got back from Midland and it's for sure booming. Had to stay in Sweetwater cause everything else was $300/night in Midland.

And if you will check Southwest Airline's site, it now costs more to fly to Midland from Dallas Love Field than it does to fly to New York City. Everyone (airlines, gasoline stations, hotels) knows that the money is flowing, so they are trying to cash in while it's still good times, because it can end in a second.
I AM glad that so many people have jobs, but wish that the drilling companies would/could somehow pay for road repair, because our little county roads were not intended for this much 18-wheeler traffic.

Was just trying to convey what life is like on the frontier when you get invaded, Used to be able to look off my front porch and not see a sign of man.

Not anymore!!!

That's beyond my pay grade.
Figured I was doing enough to post on IMUGR, then send the link.
But I can be educated.

PS One thing that I like about oil field folks is that they spend their money. They buy new cars/trucks, TVs, boats and whatever else they want.
They pump money into our economy so that everyone in Texas benefits. They don't park it in some equity fund and let it sit there.
When the oil patch is doing well, we all do well, from real estate to cowboy boots.

I'm not positive, but I think maybe there is someone here looking for customers for those.
