Looking for any advice. My wife needs a new phone as her Samsung is about 3 years old and on it's last leg. She has service through Verizon. We're trying to determine what's the best path forward. Should we buy through Verizon? Should we buy online and then just take it in for activation?

Any best practices anyone wants to share?

Get something that has a warranty. Normally they have the previous year's models for cheaper. Or you could just buy a refurb from your provider. There might be significantly cheaper avenues than buying through Verizon, but I'd be wary.

That was my thought as well. I thought about buying elsewhere but I'm nervous we'll get a lemon, especially if it's a refurb.

Wait until ~October. Buy whatever the new iPhone flagship turns out to be (or the rumored sub-flagship). Your wife will thank you.

I can only speak toward AT&T and Best Buy. Ordinarily I refrain from buying electronics (TV's, etc.) at Best due to their brick-and-mortar premium.

Having said that, I've found that Best Buy offers better deals on previous year's iPhones than Apple. Maybe they do the same for Samsung products that are not the most current models. Apple's full warranty is still provided on the iPhones from Best Buy.

Buy through provider Verizon, get Samsung S9 plus, sleep better knowing quality provider and quality phone, she will love you for couple more years, then good luck.

I bought mine at Best Buy a few weeks ago. They'll even buy your old phone for a nominal fee. Lots of options.

You'll probably be more selective then I was.

FYI - BB will generally match Amazon and a few other if you ask
