Do I need to watch this show?

If you liked BB them major yes - not as good, but that is a very high bar. Very good compared to the rest of the field.

The show is the evolution of mild mannered, corner cutting Jimmy McGill into Saul Goldman - many BB characters cross his path, more so in as the show goes on.

Binge watch the first 3 seasons and then loop back. It's a great show.
You kinda need to be familiar with Breaking Bad, however. If you haven't watched that series, then you need to do some serious binge watching.

Other than the final convo between Hammel and Jimmy that was the best part of the show.

Not real exciting on the whole. Kinda set up the season. Hector got old man out of the way and Chuck died. It's meth time !

Season premiers are often some of the worst episodes for Vince Gilligan, excluding Box Cutter of course. Looking forward to more action tonight.

Looks like next week will be the action. Episode 2 was slow.

Yep. The best thing about this season so far has been the flash forward scene with the receptionist and the cab driver.

While I think there is general agreement that Better Call Saul isn't as good as Breaking Bad, it has an element that BB couldn't have because it's a prequel to the stories of characters we meet in BB.

In Breaking Bad, we don't know what's going to happen to Saul and Jesse and Mike Ermentraut and Gustavo Fring till it happens. But we know that Nacho and Kim aren't around for Breaking Bad. This creates a sense of foreboding and an added level of suspense, which I think is one of the strengths of the show -- especially when it concerns characters like Nacho and Kim who are sympathetic figures.

1-2 Episodes of Plot Development
1 Episode with a death
1 Episode of dealing with the implications of that death

repeat.

I loved the guy getting stuck behind the desk.

Yes. It stands on its own merits. Its nice to have the various character links to BB, but the show is good all by itself.

Good acting, good character building, I like as much as BB.

The best moment of the year so far was when they looked at each other and then got out of the car and just walked right up to the gate. You knew it was going to be fun.

Also kind of puts some perspective on how much of a badass Hank really was.
