I figured some of you guys may be interested in this. I've been planning this one for a while. I just finished her and it's off with my tech getting fretwork and a setup. Can't wait to get her back Friday and give her a spin.

For those interested:

Pine Body (harvested from a kitchen demolition in Omaha, Nebraska)

Bubinga Neck and Fretboard (21 frets, Finished with 2 coats of nitrocellulose laquer, Deep U profile .990" at the 1st fret to 1" at the 12th)

Joe Barden Bridge

Bone Nut

Cavalier Nashville Lion in the bridge

Cavalier Lion King in the neck

Kluson tuners

4 way pickup switching

A light relic job on the hardware

I'll post higher quality pics with my lighting setup and DSLR when she's back in my possession. I'm pretty excited about this guitar.

Any pics from beginning to now? Would definitely like to see those. Really cool.

Pine is such a malleable wood. I'm guess that, if it was taken from a demolition, that it's been around awhile. It should be really dried and decently dense.

Between that, the Lions, and the bone nut, there should be lotsa cream with enough tele honk to advertise its lineage. I can't play scooped fretboards without sharping, It's a legacy from playing steel stringed cellos for years.

Eager to see what the alchemy produces!

I wish I had taken some pics of the process. I normally would, but I wasn't planning to do a build thread on this one because its not for a customer. Just a personal, raw guitar for me.

I know a decent wood guy in South Dallas, pm me if you want his name. I bought some cherry wood from a demolition and have built tables from it.

Your work looks good!

That's awesome. I've been thinking about building an electric guitar body out of some walnut sometime soon. I'm not brave enough to attempt a neck at this point.

I'm glad it wasn't a pair of boots. I was almost afraid to click.

Walnut is beautiful for bodies if you don't mind the weight. I've actually been contemplating another telecaster build but with an alder body and a claro walnut top. I will tell you this though, once you start building you will never stop. It's addictive - FRUSTRATING - but addictive. LOL. Necks really aren't that bad to do once you have a process down. The first one is scary, but once you know what you need to do and have your jigs and such built it's not a bad process.

I've never really messed with one. I'd like to play with one before I put one on a build. It is an idea that's been rattling around in my skull though.

It would put you in another genre. You could be Bernie Leadon, Chris Hillman or Clarence White. I see where Marty Stuart bought Clarence's original from his widow. Marty can play the hell out of it.

BTW, Marty, Hillman and Roger McGuinn are doing a fiftieth anniversary tour of the Sweetheart of the Rodeo album.

I saw that on a list of concerts at a local Indian Casino, but didn't click on it thinking it was the female duo with Vince Gill's ex and her sister.

I have a friend in Mansfield that stated making acoustic guitars several years ago. If you ever meet Chris or Jeremy, tell them hi for me. They build under Lame Horse name (Chris was a vet). Very innovative and have great success woth finger-pickers! Check them out at their website or Facebook page.

I meant to get some proper pictures up showing her off this weekend, but I spent the whole weekend playing her instead. She plays beautifully. Pics coming soon if I can keep my hands off the guitar.

I still want to sand the body down a hair to level the surface and add a bit more clear. Originally I wanted to leave the surface kind of rough, and I did. Now I'm having second thoughts. I'll probably give it a few weeks though just to see if I can live with it as is. I have other projects I want to dump a bit of cash into - namely refinishing a strat I have from black to taos blue and replacing the neck with a solid rosewood or bubinga neck. I also have a neck on a different guitar that I want to sand the poly finish off of and do an oil and wax finish on. Decisions, decisions...

Using a CNC router to cut an electric guitar is a very interesting STEM project for high schools and technical schools. I have seen the promotion materials and think it would grab a lot of interest.

Man, a CNC would certainly make my work a ton easier. Lol. I definitely agree though. On the CNC front, apparently there is a "thing" now with people building small CNC machines and using them to BUILD LARGER CNCs. Thats another project I've got my eyes on. Haha

Now, see, that's where it starts.

Put the CNC building CNC into the "learning" loop of an AI. Then, the learning loop will diagnose the finished product from the production loop in order to optimize the next batch. The next cycle through produces an enhanced CNC machine.

Eventually, the learning loop figures out that it doesn't need humans. The CNC machine begins to fabricate diggers and transporters to feed itself. It inlines power bots in order to power itself. It ties in memory and processing from Amazon.

Because someone wanted to build a guitar, the human race becomes subservient to the the machines when SkyNet becomes self-aware. For Gawd's sake, don't doom humanity!

Remind me of in the 1970s my father took in some bar code reading equipment to my church's youth group during a vocational series. He explained how they performed inventory and transferred data over a phone line. It was a cutting edge NCR system.

Small-town Baptist church. Many members were very upset. Bar codes are how the devil will accomplish the mark of the beast. My dad was aiding satan. My dad, a deacon, almost quit that church over that criticism.

This is awesome! I've always thought it would be cool to make a guitar, but I don't know near enough (about construction or guitar setup) to actually do it.

Here you go. The following link has two huge advantages. 1. You won't set SkyNet up to take over the world. 2. You get to buy a quality box of cigars to share with friends.

I highly recommend going through the build threads on tdpri.com. There is a wealth of information there.

I am making a bow. I then plan to make a dulcimer. Partly a dulcimer because I am an Ozarkian hillbilly. Also because I think a dulcimer would be easier for this old dog to play. Not much different than a 3 string cigar-box guitar. I could buy a simple teardrop for $90, so I probably should do that and starting driving my wife nuts. Then make another bow.
