Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby will serve three to 10 years in state prison, Montgomery County Judge Steven T. O'Neill ruled on Tuesday. The former television superstar, who traded on a squeaky clean, fatherly image, was sentenced after being found guilty of three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault in April in one of the most widely publicized trials in modern history.

Cosby's legal team asked that he be released on bail, pending his appeal. However, the judge denied that request. He will be sent to prison immediately as Judge O'Neill deemed that he could "quite possibly be a danger to the community."

I think God probably thinks the same way about all of us.

Mental disorders, especially where sex is at issue, are sad. We as human males are naturally selected to continue the species by impregnating as many females as possible. In order to live in a more civilized world, we, as human beings, have artificially enacted laws encouraging monogamy and penalizing unwanted sexual behavior. Unfortunately, nature and law collide where there is sex addiction and other mental disorders that involve sexual activity.

The fact is those disorders, being forces of nature, are perpetuated and aggravated by legalized sexual activities, such as the use of pornography and consensual sexual activity. This is where we have political and cultural divisions in society as to where to draw the line: what kind of behaviors are encouraged, which ones are allowed and which ones are prohibited.

In the end, Bill Cosby made some very bad choices. He is a sick man, but he is every bit as human and natural as you and me. So, just like you and me, he needs God's forgiveness as well, especially as he continues through the twilight of his life.

So, God bless the victims, and God bless Bill Cosby. He is not entirely wrought of good or evil. Like you and me, he is probably a cacophony of the two. In his life Mr. Cosby has done many, many good things as well and has helped a whole lot of people. That doesn't excuse the things he did, but it does show that the human psyche is more complex than an artificial exercise in moral absolutism.
