Some bad luck with airplanes

Flew up to St Louis Monday on business,, and back this morning to Houston. On both flights the planes had to go through some rough weather and turbulence, but on both flights what shook me a little was we caught some wind shear on landing both times, and the pilots in each case had to fight strong winds which pitched the right wing up and the left wing down just as the plane was about to touch down. The landing in Houston at IAH this morning involved the pilots fighting to keep the plane on the runway as it pulled hard to the left after touchdown, and we completely stopped on the runway while the pilots checked to make sure the landing gear had not been damaged. After we debarked, I saw the pilots walking around the plane with a bunch of airline and airport people; the next flight out was delayed, just don;t know how long. Had to get on the road, so I didn't have a chance to see what happened later.

Just seemed weird, wind shear on the landings both ways. Never saw that before.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

I fly two or three times a month. It amazes me how many people raise Hell at airports about flight delays whether it be weather or mechanical problems. I really feel sorry for some of the airline reps at the counter and the crap they put up with. As far as I'm concerned, if that pilot or grounds crew does not feel good about taking that airplane up in the air, I am going to trust their judgment. They are the experts. If I'm a little late, no biggie.

agreed! Only 3 reasons a plane doesnt fly and i want to be on the ground if any of those three occur! Some wrong with plane, something wrong with crew, or something wrong with weather...

A phrase I heard recently from a pilot, "It's better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here."

Airline travel sucks in so many ways, but complaining about safety or weather delays is just idiotic.

I completely agree. However, when you are stuck at the Waco airport for 3 hours because they didn't have a fire extinguisher on the plane and had to wait hours for one to be flown in to Waco from DFW (I woulda been glad to run to Home Depot for them!), or if you have a flight cancelled because one seat was broken onboard, then you can get a little impatient. (Both true stories for me.)

I've had to wait because the coffee pot was broken and landed two hundred miles away because we were struck by a bird. (Had to rent a car to go the final distance at 2:00 AM)

Had a 6:15am redeye out of IAH delayed 2 hours because there was a drip from the forward lavatory onto the motherboard for the navigation system. Not as concerned that there was a drip as I was that someone designed a plane with the navigation motherboard underneath the drain from the lavatory.

Also had a delay because the arm of the vehicle that pushes the plane back from the gate snapped off as it started its push. Didn't think it damaged the front wheel assembly, but let's all get off and wait 2 hours while they check.
