Cell Phone Calls

How long do you want to ignore this user?
In the last several weeks I get calls that are clearly a telemarketer/ robo call. They have area codes from Deleware, Nebraska, or other locations where I do not know anyone. The weird thing is that the voicemail that is left is a different number. It just happened with the number showing up as Florida on the call but Arizona on the voicemail.

I would say this has happened 4 times. I doubt I get two phone calls at the exact same moment and only one leaving a message. Is this just part of the whole system they use with fake numbers, computers doing the calls, etc or what?

Yes. It's number spoofing. Just wait until they start calling with numbers from your hometown to make you think a neighbor is calling. I've had to start letting every number I don't recognize go straight to voicemail.

Oh I get those all the time as well. Plenty of 254 area codes but numbers I don't know. I just let them go to voicemail as well.

It does suck when you are waiting on a call from someone for example a business, insurance adjuster, etc and you have no idea which number is theirs and which is a spam call.

Yep. i use AT&T and iPhone and one of those two came out with a service that tells you on caller ID - "Telemarketer" and "Suspected Spam."

That catches most of it for me. A few slip through.

Might be worth researching.

Google Pixel does the same.

You're lucky. I no longer answer calls from people I don't know. There's a spam ap. And you can block calls.

It's all a mess and I am on the no call list.

I get weird robo calls all the time from numbers that are almost identical to mine. I honestly think the people that thought of that idea and are implementing it should hanged

Unfortunately the no call list doesn't mean diddly dicke. I found that whenever you agree to almost anything online that requires you to enter your phone number, you are agreeing to let third-party telemarketers call you. When I was in a job search a few months back, I had people calling me acting like they wanted to talk about a job opportunity before asking me, "if you went back to school right now, what would you want to study??". I always told them my goal was to become super rich and then run for president. That usually caught them off guard. Apparently, they had got my number off monster.com

Nope

It gets worse during election season and it is actually legal for candidates to call spam you as much as they want. The Do Not Call List does not apply to political campaigns.

You can easily purchase programs that will generate whatever number you like on the receiver's caller id - even the receiver's. That's how these work. I use one routinely for my work to make it appear that I'm calling from my office when it's really my cell phone.

Yeah I knew lots of companies do this. I knew that is how they used "local" numbers. I just had never seen one number call but a different number show on the voicemail.
