All of the above qualify as greatness, so I guess I list my personal favorites.

Not that I'm a big fan of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but some of those folks are in there, namely

Buddy Holly (charter member)
Roy Orbison

Others

Willie Nelson
George Jones
ZZ Topp
Delbert McClinton
Janis Joplin
George no. 2 (Strait)
Jerry Jeff
Willis Alan Ramsey
Michael Nesmith
Freddy Fender
Bobby Fuller
Buddy Knox
Lightning Hopkins
Steve Miller
B J Thomas
B W Stephenson
Michael Martin Murphey
Roy Head
Paul & Paula (Ray Petersen & Jill Jackson)
Joe Ely
Charlie Pride
Ray Price
Ernest Tubb
Gene Autry
The Sons of the Pioneers
Bruce Channel

And and a friend that is dearly missed and under appreciated, the late Sir Doug Sahm.

There are more I'll remember later. Probably missed a few like the Stranger from Ranger.

This list is a work in progress. I think I've seen nearly all of these live.

Great list! No Mike Jones?

It deeply saddens and disappoints me to see not a single mention of Eric Johnson, the greatest guitar player on the planet.

Don't know about Eric but the greatest guitar player on the planet would be James Burton in my humble opinion

Funny, I saw a poll today on fecebook asking what classic songs do you never get tired of hearing. First one that pops into my head:

Edgar Winter and Johnny Winter, from Beaumont, TX.

Speaking of favorite Texas artists, I'm trying to figure out December 19 at the Hippodrome. Robert Earl Keen will be there, and maybe some others. A site called bandsintown.com will tell you that he'll be joined that night by George Strait and Lyle Lovett. They seem to be the only people saying this though. Looks like he's touring with Lyle up to the 6th and then Robert, Lyle and George are all three together in Vegas on the 7th and 8th, but I don't see that they're together after that. Regardless, I have my tickets, but trying to figure out how pumped up to get about the show. It would be cool to see all three together.

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that George Strait isn't playing at the Hippo. He might be drinking beers back stage with REK before and after the show...maybe that's what bandsintown is referring to!

Thanks. Looks like they've taken down the George Strait and Lyle Lovett info now. Just Robert. Still should be fun.

Yeah I've seen him a few times at Gruene Hall. Got to talk to him for a bit. Seem like a real nice guy and I listen to his music often. He is a really good songwriter. I had no idea he was a Baylor grad.
