Certainly some people have verifiable mental problems. However, the one thing we've got to address in this world is the bulletproof keyboard warrior.

Some people are just enjoying the sophomoric thrill of doing something ugly and getting away with it. I don't have any real solutions other than to just hope we get a little more mature in the world,

It's only going to get worse. As we get more disconnected from each other and more connected to technology, we are going to see more trolls like that guy and twitter mobs bent on destroying people's lives for comments about which they disagree. 80% of communication is non-verbal and we've eliminated that for vast swathes of interactions. Additionally we've killed any chance for identification with others.
