I should add that we've done the Princess Bride, ET and Goonies. Just not this week. My bad. But great suggestions.

I think Stand by Me and Revenge of the Nerds might be a little old for them. We'll wait on those.

Honey I shrunk the kids could be next.

They've already seen most of the 80s kids cartoons us 80s kids grew up with. My daughter straight up loves thunder cats.

I showed my kid "Blazing Saddles", she didn't think it was funny. I saw ET on the re release. Meh.

I watched "Breakfast Club" last week.

Still great!

A word of warning if your kids are that age. The PG-13 rating didn't exist until 1984, so many PG movies in that time period would be PG-13 today.

We showed E.T. to our kids when they were around that age, because we remembered it as a sweet, fun movie. We had forgotten that there is quite a bit of cussing. Same for Back to the Future. It's one of my all-time favorite movies, and I never really thought much about the cussing and sex-related scenes (like Biff and Lorraine in the car) until I was watching it with my kids. And Ghostbusters, too--lots of cussing and sexuality.

All 3 are great movies--just be careful showing them to your kids.

My 7 year old just recently discovered cuss words. He loves to tell us that he read this or that one somewhere or periodically tell his 5 yr old sister that you aren't allowed to say F*** or S***....all so he can say them. It's kind of funny.

Watched Back to the Future with our daughter when she was about 10. Was pretty appalled at the language. Decided to wait a bit on the sequels. A lot of those 80s movies are pretty heavy on the cussing. Realized the other day we'd never shown her Short Circuit. That's now in my Netflix list.

Kids love Pulp Fiction.

When mine was about 6, I'd say "Bear in the Big Blue House or Pulp Fiction?"

She'd say "Pulp Fiction mother****er".

When my college freshman son becomes frustrated dealing with his old man, he's likely to blurt out,

"English. Do you speak it." And when the old man figures out what he's talking about, it's

"Check out the big brain on Brett,"

Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

If you have a boy, it's never too young for him to learn Mike Damone's Five Point Plan ... and that, sometimes, you really must LOCK THE DOOR.

If he watches Fast Times, there's about a 2000% chance he will have Phoebe Cates in his search history the next day.

It’s a balance on the edge of a knife
It’s a smile on the edge of sadness
It’s a dance on the edge of life

Endlessly rocking.....

Number 5 alive.

Neverending Story

It's funny though. I recalled Grease being about singing/dancing and cars. My wife says "that's not really child appropriate" and I say "yes it is". She was right. I was wrong.

I'm much more socially liberal than most Baylor parents I would imagine. So I think my 11 year old has seen most all of these movies.

He's going to hear poor language (and anyone who knows me knows he will hear it often) and he will eventually see/hear/know about sex...might as well be in an environment where he can ask questions rather than the back of the school bus.
