I'm sure it's a more exotic / fun hobby than it really is, but i'm seriously considering a year of it in 18 months when I retire. Hit the road and it's my main/only home. Then retire it to 10 acres in South Limestone County as primary home until/unless i decide to build a cross between a hunter's cabin and a tiny home and keep the RV for seeing the North American Continent living in RV instead of an apartment. 've read all the basic articles about tips and what to do and what not to do.

Anybody got first hand info on what insuring a 25'-27' 5th wheel would be?

How about a ranking of make (kinda like in cars from bmw to Huyndai (the prices give a hint but at least what are the lowgrade makes that will rot and blow away in a few years")

Things to think about if the RV is gonna be a permenant/semi permenant home...

Don't do it! You and the wife should buy airplane tickets, stay in the LaQuinta (let someone else do the laundry and make breakfast), rent a car, and then fly home. You don't have to worry about huge price depreciation, storage, maintenance issues/ costs, insurance, etc. You can sleep well and dream about your next trip. Personally, I think you will come out ahead in the long run.

The only other two worse financial decisions besides buying an RV are getting a lease on a vehicle and buying and financing a new vehicle. Just in my most humble opinion.

Best of luck to you. Hope you enjoy your retirement. Hope to join you shortly.

The Indian speaks the Truth.

I've done some research on all types of RVs as well.

Crappily built - rolling set of troubles - and they depreciate faster than a 1984 Trabant.
