This happens to me, often. Once I demanded that Delta refund 1/2 my ticket. They did. I've never complained to the person.

My spidey sense says this guy is lying. It either way, a good conversation to have.

If that incident really happened, the guy who wrote that article will one day wake up in hell ... and he will weigh 450 or more.

I believe you. I'm a svelte 220 lb guy, but put two 300lb'ers next to me and I can get into the seat. I can't get skinnier. Not at this age. But if a brother is topping 300 pounds and is my height or shorter, it's going to be a problem.

I do believe you have to speak up and make the right kinda of scene.

It seems like it was handled fairly sensibly by both parties. The fatass knew he was taking more than his share, and the guy was compensated for basically working for five hours instead of sitting comfortably. They both agreed. The airline didn't off any solutions.

Airlines should have some kind of contingency, since they can't really predict oversize loads in a seat, which have become more and more a regular thing.

I'm a big dude at 6' 2", 250 pounds. Solid muscle and gut. United seats suck for me and my knees/legs wont sit straight without being jammed into seatback infront of me. And good luck getting the tray table to lay flat without spreading legs out a bit. So F United. Delta and SW are great. Deltas new airbus planes are the best legroom wise!

BUT You've gotta be incredibly large around the beltline to take up ANY, let alone a 1/3 of the seat next to you. At that weight, it's absolutely on you to purchase two seats, sit next to your tiny spouse, or fly first class. So this guy knew what he was getting into when he booked the ticket. So screw him for putting the normal sized dude in that situation.

Just a thought. If the obese guy was flying on business, his company may have been too cheap to buy 2 seats. In which case, all this is, is self-righteous *****s trying to justify fat-shaming.

I don't see any fat shaming going on here. I'm technically an obese person myself. Where is your anger coming from? And what's wrong with making someone who weighs what is twice normal weight pay for twice the seat space, fuel costs, luggage space, etc? It's a huge problem in this country and makes our healthcare costs skyrocket for everyone else.
