Taking a ski trip to NM and breaking up the trip on the way back to Houston by stopping in the DFW area for 1 day/night. Need ideas of what to do. Thinking of the zoo. Is one zoo better than the other? Thanks for your help.

Fort Worth zoo is awesome, one of the best in the country, but is ridiculously busy at Spring Break. The museum district is nice. You can also spend time on the historic Stockyards or in our great downtown area.
Thank you. I had heard y'all had a great zoo. And my kids (even my teenager son) loves a zoo. But I did think it may be too busy. We did the Waco zoo a couple of years ago and it was great.
Fossil Rim Safari near Glen Rose..... and the Dinosaur Valley State Park is nearby!

Less smell of human urine at the FW Zoo.
Great Wolf is a great idea as the kids can get a water park in with the skiing.
Fossil Rim is also a good place to see animals.

IMO, Great Wolf Lodge is designed more for kids under 13 or girls 13-16.
The water park is small (and crowded) and only one of the rides is anything approaching possible "thrill seeking."
Otherwise it is a small lazy river and a fairly large (but also crowded) wave pool.
The hotel is themed--and the excursions are pretty cool--if you're young--or female.
My 16 year old daughter still likes to go and hang out with her friends.
My 17 year old son thinks the place is for little kids.
My little kids--love it.
It's also pretty pricey for what you get.
Glen Rose is cool, but I don't know if the weather is good. It's been freezing this week, and the tracks are in the river, and it's a lot of fun to walk in them, but not so fun when the water is ice cold (and it's already a cold river).

Thank you to everyone for all the input. Is the Dallas zoo bad or just compared to Ft Worth it isn't as good? Anyone else have any other suggestions? It will really just be for 1 day. Again thanks!
Dallas Zoo is good. Ft Worth gets all the pub, but the new exhibits in Dallas are really well done. My wife just took our 13-yr old a few weeks ago on a whim and they had a great time.
Perot Museum downtown is also great with kids. Klyde Warren Park if the weather is nice.

Zoos are a good choice as well as the Perot museum. Plano has the new crayola factory but its not the same as the one in Easton PA. There is an aquarium and lego land as well as Peppa Pig world in Grapevine Mills mall(near great wolf ladge) geared toward younger kids

We rotate season passes between the Dallas Zoo and the Perot. I like the Dallas Zoo. It can be difficult to do in one day. Wilds of Africa, then the right side of the main zoo, then if time, the left side of the main zoo. There's a Dallas Grilled Cheese Company down the street. A must for lunch or dinner (most likely dinner so you don't have to find a parking spot at the zoo twice).jdrs said:

Perot is fun--but it is generally crowded on break weeks. Same true for the zoo though. Perot has an IMAX.
Downtown Dallas has the World Aquarium. I've never been. Heard it's awesome. Heard it is overrated. Choosing this option would give you the morning, or the afternoon to walk around downtown. Easily doable. Not as dangerous as some make it out. Don't flaunt your jewelry and make eye contact with the hobos and you will more than survive.
Talla's is a really cool pizza joint nearby (it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives). Definitely within walking distance. They're all individual pizzas so no need to worry about the family agreeing on one. And they are all awesome.
There's a Farmer's Market, City Hall (nearby police memorial, old cemetary (the confederate statue there is coming down soon, so you will never see it again), Cattleman's Drive sculpture). Or you can head the other way and check out the AAC and WFAA studios. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby.
The Art Museum if free and located near the World Aquarium. You can ride an old school trolley for free all over downtown (near McKinney Ave) if walking just isn't your thing.
Klyde Warren Park can be cool if your kids are under 10. Bring a ball and have lunch at a truck. (The Art Museum is directly across the street.)
Reunion Tower is overrated if you want an aerial view of the city. Go in the Hilton next door and go up to the 13th floor. You aren't as high--but it's free. (You can do the same thing at the Omni.)
JFK memorial very close to all of this as well. I've never been up to the 6th floor, but there is a ton to see on the ground.
If it were me--and the weather was nice--I would just do a walking tour of downtown.

Thanks but not really interested in that. Hopefully in 2-3 years when we start looking at colleges, we will still be able to miss that campus!

It's not spectacular. But I don't consider it ugly. Baylor is just so pretty. I was just being ugly lololol
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. We ended up at the Dallas zoo. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed it.
