Funniest guy to ever touch a typewriter, especially if you're from Texas. He's written over 25 books. I own them all and have read them all at least twice, some as many as six times. I mean, you sometimes laugh out loud reading them.

Like Dan, this article is a bit of an understated remembrance including especially the remark that Jenkins was no "lover of Texas".

Always enjoyed his excellent NFL preview for Playboy back in the day. It was the only time I would buy the magazine for the articles.

If you can read Baja Oklahoma without laughing out loud, then you are most likely a corpse.

You would love Semi-Tough and the sequel, Life Its Ownself.

Semi-Tough might be the funniest book I've ever read.

I have to go with Baja Oklahoma.
I was living in Dallas when that book came out, and it described the DFW metroplex to a T.
The social climbers, the clubs, the restaurants.
It was hilariously spot on.
And Baja Oklahoma is where the phrase, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it," first originated.
