Stabbed himself in the leg with novocaine once too often.
I try to study his and Harvey Corman's movements and timing. He brought funny to a whole new competitive level with small movements, pauses, and facial expressions.
He was a genius!

Conway might have been the finest all time LIVE television skit comedian. Probably would not "fit" today with so many timed segments and commercial breaks.
The Television that allowed Conway to improvise and do his great stuff that even had fellow cast members guffawing, was the freedom to freelance on the script (see his "circus elephant" skit) and take whatever time the producer felt was worthy.
Greatness that is surely missed on television.
