Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that we never seem to have any WOW graduation speakers.
Is Baylor not willing to pay for travel and lodging expenses or what am I missing?
Heck within our own Baylor family we could ask Dr. Mark Adickes, John Lee Hancock or the WOW of all WOW speakers might be Mike Singletary. We all know he can give a great motivational "WOW" speech.
Just curious what I am missing but it seems to me that after 4 hard years and all the money spent on getting a Baylor degree we could spice things up a bit at graduation time!

Have you ever sat thru your kids graduation? How long do you want it to last? Guess you could do away with "walking" and have a speaker instead.

I figure it won't by much longer before Baylor invites Brenda Tracy and/ or Lady GaGa.

Hey if Baylor ever had a speaker like Robert Smith out of Austin and did what he did at Morehouse College yesterday..............I think the kids would sit there all afternoon to get their debt wiped out!!!!! Heck even throw Mark Hurd's name into the mix he might just do something unique like Robert Smith did yesterday! One never knows!!! Paul Foster would be my first choice btw!

P.S. Robert Smith's graduation speech was none too shabby if you want to take the time to listen to it. Very inspiring and uplifting.

I heard all Livingstone did at the December graduation was talk about herself too.

Years ago as BU grad classes grew and Ferrell Center was built, BU went to THREE different undergrad ceremonies in order for each graduating student to (1) have their 15 seconds walking/receiving their diplomas by name and (2) to not have 4 hour graduation ceremonies.

Typically the universities that have distinguished graduates/guests make major speeches at gracuation have either much smaller more intimate ceremonies OR they have gargantuan ceremonies; each graduate gets only 2 "tickets" for guests to attend; and the grads do NOT walk individually--thus freeing up time for a keynote speaker.

Just depends on what you value in graduation pomp and circumstance--high notoriety "speakers" for media releases and grads never leave their seats but have degrees "pronounced, conferred, but no individual names called" OR the more personalized event in which each graduate can bring their entire families to the event and see/hear their son/daughter walk the stage.

Just a matter of priority for graduation ceremony protocol.

Hope that gives a reasonable explanation for why BU has always taken the "no keynote other than a few Presidential remarks" thus freeing up at lease SOME time for "every student walks the stage" approach to graduation.

Even as they are, BU graduation ceremonies run 2 hours+ at times WITHOUT a major keynote guest speaker added in.
