Can't agree more with the idea that Nashville is pretty awful nowadays. As a result, I've gone away from most things country for a LONG time. Looking for new, actually good stuff has been fun.

I took my 16 year old daughter to see Tony Bennett last night at Bass Hall in FW. He's 90 now and still has an amazing voice. He closed out the 90 minute set by putting the microphone down and singing the last song without help. His voice was rock solid. As he led into this song, he mentioned it was his favorite. Glad I got to see this one.

This is quite possibly the best band DFW had ever produced:

He's got amazing technical ability. Complete is a solid band, just my opinion they aren't better than Pantera.

She absolutely loved it. She's a arts kid though. Doesn't know the first thing about sports, but, she has always loved going with me to stuff like this. When she was seven, her dream Saturday night was sushi and falling asleep in my lap at the symphony. Glad we can still share stuff like this at 16.

Hey Goldmind. Since you're looking for new bands/songs to listen to, I have another one for you to check out. There's this band from England called The Rolling Stones. People seem to really like their song "Gimmie Shelter." Try it out and let me know what you think.

Richie Blackmore was getting pissed that Deep Purple was going pop, so he basically hijacked Elf, a band that had opened for them earlier. That became Rainbow. Without them, we wouldn't have Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. Or Metallica.

Head over to YouTube and check out a Beatles tribute band called Zoom Beatles. They're from Mexico City and outstanding IMO.

You guys may not expect this from me

Nikki Sixx - Van Nuys

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah & I'm Your Man

Keb Mo most anything at all

AC DC - You Shook Me All Night Long

John Prine - Lake Marie and .......
* In Spite of Ourselves is most unusual song I've maybe ever heard

I'm amazed that you hit so many of my favorites. Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is great. Keb Mo is one of my favorites. (Every Morning, The Itch, Momma Where's My Daddy). Also John Prine, and John Prine with Iris Dement on In Spite of Ourselves is classic!

Looks like some Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt love on the thread. They are two my favorite songwriters. A favorite Guy Clark of mine is My Favorite Picture of You.

My favorite Townes Van Zandt is Quicksilver Dreams of Maria

And a fantastic version of Willie Nelson I Never Cared for You. His sister is on piano and Emmy Lou Harris with him on vocals. Love the guitar solo at the beginning.
