I watched Blow on Netflix last night...I always forget how great that soundtrack is (even though Trey3216 reminds me quite often).
Great stuff. Guy Clark is criminally underrated as a songwriter. When he passed last year we went to George's that night and wore his tracks out on the jukebox. One of my all-time favorites.forza orsi said:
Looks like some Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt love on the thread. They are two my favorite songwriters. A favorite Guy Clark of mine is My Favorite Picture of You.
My favorite Townes Van Zandt is Quicksilver Dreams of Maria
And a fantastic version of Willie Nelson I Never Cared for You. His sister is on piano and Emmy Lou Harris with him on vocals. Love the guitar solo at the beginning.
I saw him live in 1975 and always meant to do it again, but never got around to it. I had told my wife several times the last few years that I really wanted to go see him again, and I really wish that I had done it. It was very sad to see him go.Crash Davis said:Great stuff. Yeah, I am not one that typically gets emotional when musicians, actors, etc. pass away, but losing Guy stung. Obviously this is one of his more famous songs, but it really is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in meh life:forza orsi said:I saw him live in 1975 and always meant to do it again, but never got around to it. Same here with most artists, but there are a few of them that you feel a different connection with. Someone that writes in a way that you relate to differently than others. When they go it really does hit you. For me Guy was one of those singer/songwriters. It's not just his songwriting, which was amazing, but hearing him sing his own stuff made it so much better. He didn't have a great voice measure by conventional standards and lots of way better singers recorded his songs, but they were always still best when Guy sang them. That's when you knew they were real, and not just songs.Crash Davis said:Yeah, I am not one that typically gets emotional when musicians, actors, etc. pass away, but losing Guy stung. Hard to stop once someone says post a good song. This is Lyle Lovett doing a a classic song Robert Earl Keen wrote during their days as friends at Texas A&M.
