I'm a bourbon drinker, but I have started dabbling in scotch. I prefer smoky so far, but looking for some good scotches to start putting on the bar shelf at the house.

Favorites so far: Ardbeg, Smokey Joe, The Macallen 12.

Hasn't really been one I didn't like yet.

Are you all booze addicted drinkers?

Define addicted. I've probably got 22 bottles around the house, but I don't drink every day. Or in excess when I do.

Highland Park 12 is a must have in the cabinet.
Balvenie 12 DW is a win.

Jura 10yr is my smooth go to. It's an Islay.
It's my only consistent one that is less than 12yr.

I live in Florida, hot as hell most of the year. So, I enjoy ice in my drinks, which is not conducive to high end single malt. So, I have a tendency to either drink blends with soda and ice or single malts with one large cube.

Blends (I go value, since I mix. More than usual due to the heat and mixing)
Johnny Walker Black is still one of the best for the money.
Famous Grouse cheap but works surprisingly well with soda
Monkey Shoulder (wife likes with Diet Ginger Ale)
Aberfeldy

Single Malt
Ardberg Winter and looking for Peat
Talisker Summer looking for some briny peat to sip all meal
Bunnahaben
Arberlour

Since I mix, I have really started to like the Japanese Suntory Toki. Nice easy, inexpensive

this is good list... not familiar with Aberfeldy and don't dig Talisker generally, but I'm down with all these items.

I would recommend Aberfeldy if you like Speyside or sweeter Highlands. It is made by Dewars and has a honey vanilla taste. Used to be $32, probably $39 now. It is a good mixer as well, with club or ginger ale (wife likes it in winter).

I have a bottle. It is very good, smooth and sweet. No peat, smoke or brine. But a nice sweet Speyside-type Scotch. Bit on the high side at $90 a bottle.

I am out of room in my cabinet! My problem is I like a little of a lot of different types. Drives my son and wife nuts. I can do three in a night:
Open with Johnny Walker Black (or something as highball)
Dinner Oban 14 or a Chivas 18 or Talisker with a cube
Finish with a Johnny Walker 18 or a Bunnaheban (sp?)

If I am at a party and want a mixed drink: Monkey Shoulder with Diet Ginger Ale Or, Aberfeldy with Ginger.

Son only does JW Black on his budget!

JW Black is a pretty good budget. Know a big shot attorney in Dallas still drinking JW Red!

I like scotch and ginger ale on ice. goes down way too easy

Me too, try it with Monkey Shoulder and a oranges squeeze, Way too easy to drink.

JWB is the go to at any restaurant or bar, it is always reasonable and good. I drank Angels Envy bourbon highball with club soda. (I mix Angels Envy with soda since it can stand up to the ice and soda). It was all right, but not worth $15. I could have had JWB and soda for $8 and been just as happy. Finished with a JW 18 neat at home, which was real good.

I live out of a suitecase. I use my points for these experiments.

I was a wine and tequila drinker until October. I started with Oban. I've since added Dalmore Sherry Cask and McCallen 12.

I drink tequila in the summer. Hereda, Casamillgas and Espolon. Usually with cluc soda and lime or with Fresca (i know not a man's drink, but it goes down easy)

I bought an El Tesoro and Tequila Ocho last year for sipping and really like them both
