Some people might put Willie on that list for Baylor. Seriously, though, if graduating is not a requirement Carlton Dotson probably would be on the top of the list.

Magnolia gets about 100K visitors per month. Per month! And that's just to visit the silos and other C&J things they've done around Waco. That isn't even to see them in person. And this has been going on for well over 5 years. Their popularity may wane as time goes on, but they have literally put Waco on the map and everything going on in downtown Waco wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for those two. 7 home football games a year doesn't justify building the hotel projects and other developments that have been built and will be built in the downtown area.

Willie is still big, but he doesn't even claim to be an alum of Baylor. At least he isn't vocal about it. And RGIII is famous in the world of sports, but most people don't remember Heisman trophy winners from other schools, if they even remember Heisman trophy winners at all. That isn't to say he is a nobody, but let's be honest, he would probably have trouble getting 5,000 people per month to a restaurant with his name on it, let alone over 1 million people per year to a store in a small town in central Texas that doesn't even have a major airport.

Point taken but, other than Mt Rushmore & maybe a couple others on the list, I don't think most tourists are going to those cities only to see a statue. Then again, no one goes to Waco just for the RGIII statue either.

And if the criteria is "attending" and not "graduating", then Tech gets John Hinckley and UT gets Charles Whitman.
OU has Charles Keating and Huey Long on its list of notable attendees.

KSU - Gary Patterson

Is my contention that anyone having attended classes counts as an alumnus. If you want to differentiate, specify "graduate." With that being the case, the argument between Willie and Chip/Jo is a close one. It depends on how you define famous. I'd lean Willie, but Chip/Jo are really, really, really well known by a huge portion of America. Willie probably had the more devoted fan base.

If we're talking about a combo of well known, devoted, and a heavy importance placed on how influential an individual is, I would say Rand Paul takes the cake for Baylor. He did leave without a degree, but that was before you needed a bachelors to get into med school.

You don't have to be a graduate to be an alum.

Then the word would just be graduate.

Do you remember Back to the Future Day? The movie ended with the time machine returning to 1985 after jumping ahead to October 21, 2015 by which time we would have flying cars powered by Mr Fusion which used garbage for fuel. Reality wasn't quite like that.

Singletary? No. He's not even the most well known Baylor football player.

I would still say nationally RGIII is more known. This seems to be a list primarily of current celebrities who are grads of these schools. Thirty years ago it would have been Crystal Bernard on the list for Baylor. Now if in 50 years or so the Chip and Joanna brand and company is as big as Disney, ok. My point all of these schools have more consequential alums who people do not know are or were alums.
Again I would say the facts of their own tv station after having their own show, multiple brands, multiple best seller books, etc. and them turning Waco into the #1 tourist destination in TX prove that theory wrong.

Net worth of each would work out in his favor as well…

Never happen, but Willie Nelson doing GameDay picks would be the biggest person they ever had made those picks.
LOL LOL LOL

Keep dreaming. Willie is a has been.

I guarantee you very few under 30 have any clue who he is. Meanwhile they know who chip and jo are.

And they almost double his net worth. His worth is $25 million as of 2020. Theirs is at $50 million.

To certain age groups those people are well known. But to others they aren't. For example, a few years ago Elton John performed with some new singer at an awards show. All sorts of people posted on social media about the "discovery" of Elton by this younger guy.

They had no clue who he was.

And I seriously doubt he drew that much twice a week.

Again it isn't about worth. It is about most well known with a connection to the school. I have seen numerous Jeff Dunham specials and never once heard him mention Baylor. I have never seen anything about him donating to Baylor. Most people probably could not name what school he went to.

Chip and jo on the other hand people could. They have turned their stores into the top tourist destination in Texas.

Honestly my first and only time seeing Jeff Dunham was when he was the guest picker on gameday. I get how big he was back in his prime but his fame is fading and has been for a while (nothing wrong with that).

Willie is iconic but he didn't even graduate and most people outside the Baylor bubble don't even know he attended. Most people under 30 in Texas absolutely know who he is but not sure you could say the same about those in the NE or PNW?

It's chip and jo easy. It's almost impossible to meet someone from out of state and mention Waco or Baylor without getting asked about Magnolia.

Gates, dell, and zuck aren't alumns anywhere either.

Nelson is as big in his craft as those are in theirs..

Nelson is a top 10 (worst case, 50) solo music artist of all time.

If you disagree, name 49 more….

Or even 10…

Nope. This is a common misconception.

Quote:

An alumnus (masculine) or an alumna (feminine) of a college, university, or other school is a former student who has either attended or graduated in some fashion from the institution. The word is Latin and simply means "one who is being (or has been) nourished".

The plural is alumni for men and mixed groups and alumnae for women. The term is not synonymous with "graduate"; one can be an alumnus without graduating (Burt Reynolds, alumnus but not graduate of Florida State, is an example). The term is sometimes used to refer to a former employee or member of an organization, contributor, or inmate.
