This is a funny observation. For decades, conservative communities in Texas associated the wearing of black with crime and evil - limiting and sometimes outright banning the color in their high school sports teams' uniforms.

Baylor pulled the plug on Baylor "Nation" in favor of the more wholesome Baptist term Baylor "Family" and banished the evil black from uniforms.

Will be interesting to see if either ever returns. I'm not holding my breath.

Guess that means I can get an early start too. Wear what you want to the game, if you like gold, do that, if not do something else. Be happy, be you (pun intended), don't stress about your wardrobe, enjoy the game, have fun. Life is too short to take football games seriously. It's not your job or responsibility, its just entertainment. If you allow people to persuade you differently, we'll wind up no different than Aggies.

or rather realize that looking like we have a more full stadium/showing out at road games can and does have not only a positive impact on our players from an atmosphere standpoint but also helps market our brand better. Wearing gold is a simple ask & a simple way to help grow the Baylor brand & positively impact the game

Drove past campus on 35 yesterday. The northbound billboard just before 5th street that was the original "This is Baylor Nation," then replaced with the more cuddly "This is Baylor Family,"*** has now been replaced with a generic "Welcome to Baylor."

But at least the new billboards are a honey-mustard shade of "gold".

***I presume "Family" has been dropped because most families usually don't expunge Great-Great Grandad Rufus from the geneological annals simply because the views he held that were prevalent in the late 19th Century no longer comport with 21st Century sensibilities.

I mean I have no desire in honoring any family members who support evil things regardless if those around them support it as well. Slavery didnt just all of a sudden become a bad thing one day. It was evil always & completely agasint the teachings of God. Heck, there is an entire book in the old testament that centers around how bad enslaving people is.

But not sure what slavery has to do with wearing gold to football games. Maybe you thought this was the R&P board?

Linda overheard at a cocktail party that "Family" is a paternalistic vehicle used by white Christian straight men that believe they are men to suppress women and spread t'racism.

Not sure if 'comport' and 'sensibilities' can be used in the same sentence where racism and slavery is concerned.

Wearing gold is a simple ask
Sure its a simple ask, the first one always is. But we know it ends up (because we've seen it), with people wanting others to squeeze their nuts, wear farmer overalls with patches on them and attend midnight yell practice to grow the brand and help the team win (along with other disgusting behaviors that are defended as tradition). But that's just one terminal example, you may be able to think of others: throwing tortillas, that idiotic bending up and down to the Wabash Cannonball, any friking thing at all that involves wearing purple, or spending money to attend a spring game come quickly to mind.

Its just a football game. Be chill. Have fun. Be you.

the extreme desire some of yall have to constantly compare asking fans to wear a color that helps our fan base appear as if we are actually not there vs a bunch of empty seats to A&M or Tech or any other school that has a tradition you dont follow is just plain lazy and dumb.

You likely will never admit it but feeling like a school and other fans asking you to wear gold is gonna lead us down some path towards new traditions you dont like is rediculous. But we know what your real issue is and it is no different than that of so many of our fans who refuse to stand up at any point and the most noise they make at a game is to yell at others to sit down and stop cheering so loud. Baylor fans are notorius for wanting games to be a bible study. It is a college sporting event. It should be full of passion. Break the stigma of the last 100 ****ing years and maybe we can finally grow our brand and be more than just a tiny bubble in central texas that nobody cares about.

wearing gold does not equal yell practice and grabbing your balls any more than throwing the ball to score a touchdown makes you the same as A&M because they too pass the ball

Its just a football game. Its run on an entirely corporate, for profit basis by highly paid professional administrators and coaches, played by players that are, increasingly, going to be paid professionals, in a league that is solely motivated by money.

Let the people paid to build the brand build the brand. Not our job or responsibility. We are there to be entertained by watching the game. They are selling us a product for a price. Its their job to deliver. That's the way professionalism works.

Winning one for the Gipper died long ago. College football at Baylor, and everywhere else, has changed completely in the last 20 years. We're just customers now. Customers demand results for the price paid without any other input.

it is ok to simply admit you are to lazy to actually do something that has tangible benefits for not only the football team that you claim to support but also the university as a whole. I guess some people take pride in things while some fight every which way to prevent positive change. refusing to acknowledge that college sports brands are built on the back of the fans and their efforts including showing up to home and away games and creating strong home field advantages along with visually promoting such an atmosphere and thus are key to brand building. Some of us actually care to see the brand grow and understand that it doesnt happen without fans putting forth even minimal effort.

on field results dont just come out of nowhere. the strongest programs have the strongest fan support and strongest home field advantages. Thats why they are who they are. If you dont want to be a big player, then just say so.

Tell me more about this nut squeezing tradition? Is that lined up for the TCU game or something?

well depends on the year i suppose. the old days had both a green shirt and a yellow shirt depending on the year. The jersey style was not until later and at least a few years it was white but yes most have been the same shade we are discussing now. along with numerous sports, including football, utilizing the same shade of gold over many decades. people just love to *****

Alternated between green and gold for several years before permanently switching to gold.

If your grad year on the back was odd the jersey was green, If it was even your jersey was gold (yellow). Mine was green because my grad year was odd; my brother who was the year before me had a yellow jersey with his even grad year.
I'm not quite as dumb as I seem
