I really didn't think we'd see it run again the way BU did it in the early teens, and a few members of Briles' coaching tree have tried - and failed - to implement it similarly in their own offenses, his own son included, since 2015.

Heupel at Tennessee is the first - and only - person to make it happen in a comparable way since Briles. And ironically he did it simply as a fan, and not as a direct member of his coaching tree. Wide splits, a dual threat QB (albeit w/ slower legs than RG3) who looks to one-read vertical threats with a howitzer arm, not much mesh, run to throw, tempo, astronomical YAC. It's fun to watch. And familiar.

Tennessee is running into the same issues we had, which is to say you absolutely run your defense through the sword if you play this style - it's yet to be proven you can have an efficient defense with this tempo. But hell, it leads to some wild rides and the games are blood-boiling entertainment.

I'll be interested to see if Tennessee can win something with it in the dEfEnSe Is KiNg SEC. I'm personally glad we play defense here now, but it's still fun and nostalgic to see our offense performing in different colors nowadays.

Lebby was on his staff and he was on OU staff during that time, so he's seen it a bit.

Felt like I was watching 2013 Baylor. Tennessee is going to be damm hard to beat because you'll need at least 30 to have a shot and they don't beat themselves with turnovers etc

An interesting twist, had Fulmer not been fired in the middle of the HC search, he would have hired Steele.

He coached with Lebby but did study it before then and began implementing as Utah St and Mizzou OC I believe. Drew Lock had big stats for a reason.

Tennessee's defense lacks some experience and talent across the board and has injuries. I'd be interested in seeing if Heupel can land blue chip guys across the board what would happen. Briles at the start couldn't get blue chips across the board so stuck everyone on offense to win track meets. Tennessee is very similar right now.

I would say Lebby had Ole Miss rolling up points pretty well. He has done a solid job running it(minus Gabriel being injured). Arkansas is still building up a talent base. They were gutted after the Morris era. Briles has done a pretty commendable job considering the competition and talent level. Jefferson has dealt with injury this year.

Tennessee has never had trouble recruiting… Even in their down years. I'm really excited to see how they will parlay their current success.

I think everything fell just right for Tennessee yesterday - home game, record number of penalties for Alabama, etc., but they are definitely a team playing better every week and on the rise. Alabama and Georgia will be so difficult to beat down the stretch, but it looks like the SEC has 3 great teams this year.

Plus, as you mentioned Ole Miss and Arkansas are both pretty good in their own right.

I think Kendal has had some success with it. His teams at FAU and Houston were reminiscent of Baylor. I don't think he had the same extent of free reign at Fl St or currently has it at Arkansas. Still, he's definitely doing something right at Arkansas. With the exception of his 1 yr at Fl St, every team he has gone to immediately did a 180 offensively. If he gets an opportunity to be HC, I'm hoping we'll see it again. In the meantime, I'm enjoying watching the real UT in Tennessee.

Not me.

- I'd trade it in a second for the entertainment of an offense scoring 50, 60 or 70 like we had.

- I enjoyed almost expecting every play to go to the house.

-I enjoyed watching us just run defenses into the ground.

-I enjoyed watching the pure calamity on the opposing team's sideline with their defensive coaches and their facial expressions.

-I enjoyed watching us just demolish undermanned non-conference opponents who had never experienced anything like they saw when we played them.

-I enjoyed watching 8 yards a play every time we touched the ball and then a long throw to a receiver who was 10 yards behind every DB covering him.

-I enjoyed having to hold my bladder for fear of a restroom break meaning I missed us score yet again.

-And all of this has nothing to do with Briles vs. Aranda because I like both as coaches. I just prefer offense for entertainment.

And so much winning. We beat a top 10 opponent something like 5 or 6 years in a row. Only is and Alabama at that time

Look, no one worships anyone. Any Baylor fan who can't appreciate and respect what Art did on the field is as twisted as the BOR who blamed him everything. Tennessee has the #1 O in the Nation, like we used to, because they use many of Art's concepts on O.

It's too bad football teams even have to have an offense. Nothing like watching defense all game long and hoping to score points through field position battles and special teams.

Most exciting/entertaining football I've seen in my lifetime and I first started going to Baylor games in the mid '60s. The adrenaline rush was real.

Agreed. It was so much fun. My first Briles games was ISU in 2008 - just felt different. RGIII to Kendall seemed unstoppable and able to score at will. 38-10 seemed like a blowout but would be mild in later year comparisons.

Heupel seems like a good dude. I liked him when he was QB. You really have to wonder how he resurrected his career after failing as the OC at Oklahoma, getting fired and ending up at Utah State. We helped send him to Utah with our 2014 shellacking in Norman.

It's an odd story, and a google search doesn't reveal much other than he used the opportunity as motivation. Some guys never make it back after their career loses steam. Good for him.

Amen and hallelujah to you brother Dane.

I like CDA and know we are lucky to have him. I like his 4th down strategy. He and his coaches give us a chance to win.

Would much rather see a shoot out than a 3 yards and a cloud of dust ball control game.

He was the fall guy for Bob Stoops and cover for his failing brother.

Heupel's Dad had some choice words for Stoops, but the story is being buried now.

That's business.
