Quotes of the Week

Senior Defensive Lineman TJ Franklin

"The focus is still where it needs to be. I mean, [the staff] have done a good job by making us practice in the morning and giving us the extra time in the evening to either get extra film or take care of our bodies, do anything that we need to do to be like our final preparation for the game, so that's a big help."

Senior Offensive Lineman Jacob Gall

"That's something we've been talking about all week and I think the thing we really come back to is that this is another chance for us to prove ourselves," Gall said. "Everybody that's kind of still been doubting us all season after the start or after any loss we've had, this is still another chance to prove to everybody the team that we actually are.""

Head Coach Dave Aranda

"I think we're stronger for it. And I think we're probably a closer team now than we were just two weeks ago. I think you find out so much about yourself, especially when there's trials, tribulations, and all of it. And when people can fully put their heart out there and then have it crushed at the end, I think it's so vulnerable to do that. And for guys to do that. And then to make the decision here to do it, again, I think, speaks to just a strong growth of the team. And we're aiming to do that."

Analysis of the Week

SicEm365 Analyst Travis Roeder

What an impossible game to predict. From a pure quality standpoint, I think this is a toss-up game. What makes it so difficult is you have to predict the team’s energy, focus, and desire. Texas still has a lot to play for (they can make the title game if they beat Baylor and Kansas beats K-State). Baylor spent themselves emotionally against TCU. Were they able to recover and gin up enough energy to one of the three best teams they’ve played this year, and play them on the road?

Baylor has the talent to make Texas one-dimensional in this game by relatively shutting down Bijan and forcing Ewers to beat them consistently. That’s Baylor’s path to winning. If they really shut down Texas’ run game like TCU was able to, Baylor can hold Texas under 24 points. We’ll see what version of Baylor’s defense we get tomorrow.

Alright Shapen you're done.

I'd Aranda had another season like this he's on the hot seat.

From AP Preseason #10 (where many bitc*ed we should be higher) and projected winner of the conference along with OU to:

Unranked. 6-6 overall and a losing conference record.

Good grief.

this should be kyron drones team next year. shapen doesn't have the brain. not his fault...not enough time, not enough reps, not enough experience. it is what it is, had a year to assess fully, give the game to someone who knows what they are doing.

When RGIII and Castanik saying that TX needs to offer $5-6Mil MORE NIL $$ to come back, there is something wrong with college football (B Johnson)

Any coaching staff dumb enough to go
For it inside your own 30 Or so in the 3rd quarter of a 1 score game has some major soul searching to do

They probably also shipped off a starter that 10 or 11 games the year before to supposedly do something g different

And boy did they do it different. In true aggy fashion

Exactly! And there should be more credit given to Art for that! Aranda has done nothing but ride Rhule's coat tails last year. Next year we'll see if he and Grimes are football geniuses like the premium board believes.

This season came down to four very winnable games…and we lost all of them. BYU, WVA, TCU, Texas.

… with Rhules players. I'd calm down on that comparison until Aranda wins regularly because he **** his pants this year and loses a ton from a 6-6 team likely 6-7 in a few weeks

Gentlemen, it is not about lack of experience. Shapen doesn't have it. It's fine to admit it. It's not like this dude it was a first round pick in the draft. I don't think Aranda is stupid. He made the right decisions after his first year. He needs to admit that the shapem experience was a failure and find someone competent in the portal. If not, I could see a mass exodus in transfers.

Let's not forget the best player you're crediting to rhule is actually Briles…

Well, if y'all want to talk recruiting blunders you have to wonder about players like Brooks Miller that has like one or two other Sun Belt offers other than Baylor. Matt Rhule felt like he was better at evaluating talent than every other team in the country, and oftentimes he was, but he swung and missed on A LOT of guys

Plays that lost us the game:

First drive: Ellis wide open for a touchdown. Shapen under-throws him. Totally haven't seen that before. Should be 7-0 right off the first drive.

3rd drive: Texas wakes up and completely carves up our defense to make it 9-7 then we go 3 & out and have an 11 yard punt. Texas promptly takes a 14-9 lead 3 plays later. Special teams continue to be not so special.

4th drive: we have an 18 play drive that takes 8 1/2 minutes off the clock and all is looking great till the handoff to Reese gets fumbled and we have to settle for a field goal. Went for it twice on 4th down on that drive and yeah we got points but damn did it hurt to only get three.

2nd drive of the 2nd half: clinging to 2 point lead. Use a 13 play drive to get to the 22 only to miss a field goal just like last week.

4th drive of the 2nd half: Robinson runs it down our throat & Texas scores to take back the lead after Gabe Halls fumble return TD. Offense comes back on the field needing a score to take back the lead & Blake throws an awful interception. Texas gets it right back again at our 42 and score a few plays later to put it away.

Bonus plays: Grimes calling slip screens for no gain on 3rd & 13 and running it up the middle into the teeth of the defense on 3rd & 8 somebody please hire this man as a head coach & get him out of town.

50% completion ain't gonna get it done. Whole reason BS was picked over GB is because he "opened up the passing game" yet our passing game has been just as abysmal as last year if not worse and on top of that we don't have the rushing threat that we had with Gerry in the game. I love Shapen and he's a good dude but when your coming off a Big 12 title, Sugar Bowl Championship & your literal best season in school history, you don't make a QB switch unless you have a legit game changing baller coming in. Blake has not been that guy.

Aranda so far the Barry Switzer of college football when Barry took over the cowboys.

Guess we'll see how it plays out. For a defensive genius in yeae 3, that was pretty embarrassing

3rd and 18 or so and we throw a 2 yard completion. Not that it mattered but just par for the course for these guys

As much as I'll disgusted by Shapen's effort the last 3 games, I can't disagree with you more. GB didn't lead us to the bowl game, he didn't stay healthy the most important part of the season and this board has mass amnesia of that fact. GB looked even worse away from our offense than he did in it, that's not a good sign there would have been any improvement. GB is hands down the worst passer to start as a baylor QB in the last decade and a half. He could run but that one trick pony won't get you championships.

This.

I think Shapen is a good dude and he busts his ass….but he has a low ceiling. There has not been growth during the year. So many off target throws. He also doesn't seem to have the natural leader instincts that Gerry had.

I think Aranda fumbled on this big decision in the Spring. I think we win at least one or two more games this year with Gerry.

He needs to play baseball. He has no future as an NFL qb, probably not much of one as a P5 qb.
