RG3 advocating Bijan ask for $6 to $7 million in NIL money

I still don't understand exactly how NIL money works….I know the schools are not directly paying the players….but this will be another game changing aspect of NIL if it gets to the point where it's enough for a player to delay entering the draft.

Obviously BU will never be in the mix at a level like this I wouldn't think.

I think he's involved in several charitable causes in Austin. He sounds like a good dude….even though he's a Horn.

He is a good dude and I don't know if it was all him or the coaches instructed it but it seemed to me he was intentionally not scoring a TD in the final minute of the game.

Given the shelf life of NFL running backs it should cost UT at least that much to keep him given what he would be walking away from.

Charitable causes is how they launder the money in Austin.

Doing the math. How is a 20-35 million guaranteed contract with an NFL team more valuable than 6-7 million to play one more year of college and risk ending the career during that one last college year?

I don't see it really going this direction.

They said of his 2mil Nil gives back 10,000's. So a couple % of his gross sounds more like a publicity stunt and/or tax benefit.

It always astounds me that people who are so quick to defend the market and free enterprise jump all over NIL.

If someone is willing to give this, or anyone, an agreed upon amount of money, why shouldn't that person take it? Why do people want to throw up their hands at someone getting what they are worth?

Here is what is silly and disturbing about that response regarding NIL. It also shows what is wrong with college athletics that we all pay our coaches millions of dollars and spend close a billion in facilities. That doesn't stop us. We do it.

It looks like a disturbing tell to me that we aren't doing well with NIL and when the the response is something along the lines of "it is un Christian or contrary to Christian culture to pay big time money for athletics if the money goes directly to the student athlete" is suddenly the argument.

Nothing wrong with him getting more money but that amount won't keep him in college. That guy has a nice future on the next level and is a classy guy.

I haven't seen or heard anyone make the argument that it is unchristian, just that it goes against what college athletics are supposed to be about. For the record, I'm in the camp that the players should get paid, but just pointing out that I haven't heard that particular argument against it yet.

I was reading between the lines of "culture over greed". "Culture" brought up by Baylor folks in Baylor context usually is code for "Christian".

NIL is murky right now. They need some guardrails for it. I used to be in the players get paid via education camp but when mid tier coaches start making over $5mil a year and the Big10 signs some ridiculous media contract it's time for players to get a little pie. NCAA could've slowed this down via stipend if it was implemented years ago and working out some sort of health insurance thing for athletes but they are a spineless organization.

Bijan will make more as a pro but some players who love their situation as a student athlete may happily take a big NIL payday to stay, especially if they want to avenge a disappointing season. He also seems to be a quality human being so best of luck with whatever he decides to do.

More valuable depends on what one values most.

He gone. But I can certainly support elite players that would continue with their college careers to follow their own dreams their own way, especially with some assurances that either way they'll be OK. You can never get those years back again.

It's just reality. NIL exists. If it gives a player a more viable opportunity to stay in his college program another year, if he really wants that, then it just makes sense.

Rich is rich. Dreams are dreams. Not all can be bought, at least not cheaply.

I wish there were an NIL that prevents more players from opting out of bowl games if they are to collect. Seems like there should be some commitment on both sides. A lot of players that leave early end up losing their football careers much sooner than they thought due to false expectations, being given poor advice or flawed scouting projections. Some probably end up wishing they had stayed on, but you can't go back.

Since NIL is here to stay I hope in the end NIL allows more players to remain in college, mature phsically and mentally, gain a bit of maturity related to budgeting and spending while making some money and get a degree before they hop to the NFL.

Bijan gonna go get that NFL bag. Smart move.

Wonder if he will sit out the bowl game.

We should track the Fear/Reality of the NIL.

Some of the predictions I've heard have been terribly wrong.

Overall, I think it brought transparency to a terrible system of under the table payments made by the large and powerful.

The prediction that the Blue Bloods would blow everyone away hasn't IMO appeared.
The Blue Bloods were in a more powerful position before, because they could cheat with impunity and only schools like SMU and Baylor were ever punished. Remember, Rhett Bhomar and Adrian Peterson drove luxury vehicles and the NCAA didn't say a word.

No radio shock jock is telling this story, because those blue bloods pay their bills.

The NIL has a ceiling, and it acts as a price signal for NFL agents to seize on. If a player is getting a large NIL deal, it's time for the NFL to sign him up.

And we aren't hearing the entire terms from sports media, they don't know.
