Could blow up this Nebraska season with a single wet firecracker.Jorkel said:

This is silly. Rhule is more control freak than egomaniac. He "blows up" programs to build them back up exactly how he wants to, not so he gets more credit when he gets them back on track. People dismiss "the process" as coach speak, but it's not. That's what he believes to be the best way to build a winning program. And so far, his track record in the college ranks is pretty damn good.Jorkel said:

I don't know Grumpy, I think the key is to be happy in what you are doing and not having your life be in continual scrutiny by the media and by people (in this case fans) who are talking and writing out their rear ends about things of which they have no intimate knowledge or information that is actual factual and complete surrounding the position in which you work. And you had better like not having a life for most of the year because of games, recruiting, etc.Grumpy said:
So I'm reading that Rhule will be paid the remainder of his contract at Carolina of $34 million for the next four years (albeit with some potential mitigation of that payout) while likely garnering nearly $9 million/year from Nebraska. I went into the wrong profession.
Which is precisely why it needs to be razed and rebuilt.canoso said:Could blow up this Nebraska season with a single firecracker.Jorkel said:

The Big Ten is very likely eliminating divisions like everyone else has, so this will be a moot point by the time he has a team ready to compete.IowaBear said:
B10 West is the biggest joke in P5 football. Should be able to win that joke of a division almost yearly
It's not a secret. And it wasn't spin. Matt Rhule told the fanbases at both Temple and Baylor what his plan for the program was. Some (like you apparently) just didn't want to listen.PartyBear said:
I don't think he tries to blow things up. I think that was spin from his ardent supporters here. I suspect he will be more careful now with more experience etc.
That said I personally think this is an odd choice from both sides of this new marriage.

I often wonder how many people here would feel if the visible results of their work was available for all the world to see and to criticize every time and everything when something wasn't perfect in the public's eyes. I suspect to an unbiased observer, their job performance would not be anywhere near the standards they seem to expect of the coaching profession of the team they follow. But then again those people always come to work focused on their jobs, never have a bad day, or make a poor decision.
Coaches get paid way more than they should for supervising a game, but for many, if not most of them, they have no life. Money is not what makes people happy when all is said and done. I'm sure that those who have never had it believe it does, but money ensuring happiness is way down the list of things that do.
If you are happy and comfortable and you like what you do or did, you did not go into the wrong profession.
Rhule's first team is going to be bad. Nebraska fans need to prepare themselves for that now.IowaBear said:
He can compete in the West day 1 if they're still in divisions next year. You need proof of that watch the B10 title game

Matt Rhule wants to control the culture and philosophy in every facet of his program. Often, the only way to get everyone aligned is to tear down to the foundation and build up.
I would bet money that Nebraska looks terrible in his first year as his players adjust to what he wants from them and how he wants them to play. I'd also bet money that they're winning a lot of games by Year 3.
He called it a rebuild from the start? What exactly did you think he meant by that?PartyBear said:I'll listen for when he tells the Husker nation his plan is to be really bad at first. If I miss it post it here for me. I really don't remember him telling Baylor folks that was the plan.bear2be2 said:It's not a secret. And it wasn't spin. Will also be interesting to see if he goes after some Baylor or Tech staff. Also, there is Elijah Robinson at TAMU. Rhule brought him from Temple to Baylor. He is also a Penn State guy.BellCountyBear said:

Iowa can typically reload on defense, so I don't think they'll drop off too dramatically there. And I think the pressure to change the offense will be too great not to, but I could be wrong. Ferentz is stubborn, but coaches make uncharacteristic decisions when they know their head is the next on the chopping block.IowaBear said:
Iowa loses a ton from their defense. They aren't going to be any better because they aren't going to evolve. Ferentz is living in dinosaur times offensively. They lucked into 7 wins thanks to a weak West per usual
