We have a better conference record than OU and KU, yet they get better Bowl games with better (brand name) opponents. Playing AF is a no-win situation for the Bears.

Yeah it sucks; play better & win more is all I can say.
I'm not quite as dumb as I seem

Never leave it in the officials hands so to speak.

Our team earned what they got. Frankly I'm
Surprised they made a bowl. I have it < 50/50 odds per ou

And clearly we had some locker room issues going on

The bowls get to pick whoever they want when it's their turn, so this outcome isn't surprising. Baylor likely would have ended up at the Liberty Bowl if Kansas had not been available to pick instead.

Being less desirable than Kansas…what a great feeling

I suspect it because it has been so long since KU was in a bowl game. Their fan base would be more excited (translated - enthused to go) than any other XII team available.

It's about fan support. Baylor fans don't travel. They don't show up en mass. It's the way it's always been. And now with a bit of entitlement based on recent success, it's the way it'll be in the future.

We earned a crap bowl with our play. Not even sure 6-6 teams should even play bowls. Nothing like rewarding mediocrity all year. Factor that in with the fact that I seriously doubt BU travels well at all for bowls and this is what you get. Nothing to to but go out and win a bowl trophy against a pretty good team

This. If you lose your last 3 (including an embarrassing home blowout loss) to go 6-6 with a losing conference record you should be happy just to get into a bowl.

We have a tiny alumni and fan base that doesn't travel well.

Bowls want to maximize ticket sales and TV eyeballs for ad revenue.

Until we become a blue blood, we won't be competitive for bowl selection--especially for a throwaway season. And even then, we'll never reach a fandom like, say, Notre Dame can due to cultural factors.

Sad but true I remember going to the big 12 championship game last year and looking around and all I thought was is this really the best BU can do.

We need to accept being picked last. Baylor fans don't travel. Never have, never will.

The only surprise is that parts of our fan base still don't understand how bowls work and they remain entitled.

Looking at attendance figures for many of the bowls through the years - especially the non NY6 bowls - apparently a lot of schools' fanbases don't travel well. And Baylor Nation did fine at last year's Sugar Bowl.

I've got some news for you about Kansas football fans traveling….

Also this is 2022 league offices have a lot of say on bowl selection. It's absolutely the conference shafting teams to give OU and KU better bowls

I was expecting a crap bowl after the season ended based on our meh record….but seeing several analysts pair us with Florida, Arky, or Wiscy gave me false hope today

Kansas is going to their first bowl game in forever. There is a lot of hype for this bowl on their end.

If you don't think the state of Kansas (and the rest of the US) is going to get up for KU's first bowl game in forever... Then I don't know what to say.

State schools have more fans than private schools (except Notre Dame and BYU for ethno-religious reasons). That's a reality we can't change.

Yeah good point, I didn't think of that. I bet the fans will be pumped

I grew up in Kansas, the heart of Jayhawk country, they don't give a crap about football, they won't travel en mass. KU just doesn't care about football, certainly not enough to travel seriously to a city that has basically zero KU alums.

Ironically if KU played the armed forces bowl they might have good turnout since DFW is one of the larger cities for their alumni

How does the Liberty Bowl not pick a history, fun, classic SWC rivalry with Baylor-Arkansas for a team that Baylor destroyed?!?

Of course Baylor fans don't show up in mass. Very few are Catholic.

It's not entitlement…it's just stats. The subjectivity of the whole mess is just annoying. Btw, go Crusaders!

I was at the Sugar Bowl. Easily 25:1 Ole Miss fans. I may really be underestimating.

No-win situation, how? Win the game and you win.

That should be our only concern right now. Our record this year didn't earn us this degree of entitlement.

Yeah ..and so what? ...we have no control over our opponent..you don't think winning is the better option over losing?

You know..we could be Iowa State or West Virginia sitting our ass at home..

The fact you bring up better conference record is an indication you don't understand how this process works.

Kansas= happy...more tickets sold
Baylor=disappointed .. people *****ing about our opponent

I hate to tell you... But ever since the CFP, bowls stopped mattering and they matter less each year that goes by. As the CFP expands, they'll matter even less.

If Shapen had thrown the ball to a wide open Ben Sims as time was running out against TCU we wouldn't be talking about Air Force or the Armed Forces Bowl right now.
