Baylor and the rest of the new look Big 12 finished around where they usually do other than (1) TCU, which finished with what is probably its best class in recruit tracking history, and (2) Tech, which (I believe) finished higher than it has finished since Mike Leach was there and was #2 overall in the new look Big 12. It's largely been a quiet day in terms of last minute commits for the league - and that's disappointing.

Lane Kiffin stayed at Ole Miss and then barely out-recruited Duke.

Struggle by whose standards. A lot of the 4* max out in high school. More 3* are probably drafted if you look at the numbers. Development matters. 5* is usually the only ones that nearly always pan out. All of that is individual play. Teams like Utah are consistently good and don't necessarily have a top 10 class

These are the same players these schools always get. Just swap a few 4 stars between TCU, TT, OSU, and Baylor each year and one comes out ahead of the other. It will likely continue to be that way for a while with only someone like UCF able to break in.

Update - we are now in a virtual tie in overall recruiting class with TT and the only school ahead of us in the new Big 12 is TCU.

I count 4 of our new transfers in as 4 star while only 2 of the outbound transfers were 4 star (and one of those was basically kicked off the team).

On top of that, if you were to name the positions where we needed help last year, we've probably addressed every one of them on your list

WR - 4 star
OL - 4 star (and 3 star)
DL - yep got one of those
LB - we'll take Liberty's leading tackler
QB!!! - 4 star

The only place where we've lost more than we've gained is in DBs, but I think two of those may be related to our new DC. He'll have some work to do.

TCU out-recruited everyone else in the new Big 12 pretty handily, it's pretty unheard of for any non-UT/OU program to pull in 10 4-stars in a single class. And most of those signed either before the 2022 season even started or before it became what it was. Which makes you wonder what 2024 is going to look like if we don't get our act together.

Just from memory, TCU is almost always 3rd in recruiting in the conference, so to me it would make sense that they would solidify that position this season as they were ranked in the top of the poll for almost the entire year. If we actually want to finish ahead of them in recruiting, we should probably beat them on the field someday.

The gap between us is almost nothing if you are trying to predict on-field performance in 2 or 3 years (when most of these players will actually play).

Its not a real relevant gap. Nothing like Bama/Uga v those outside the top 10. Tech, Tcu, BU, possibly UCF, Ok state (if they don't implode) will come down to how well you scouted, development, and coaching. It isn't significant enough to make much of a difference.

Now Byu & UH will need to pick it up. Their talent levels are a few levels below. BYU can mitigate as they are typically much older and physically developed.

Numbers indicate its pretty close. Not sure where you get they beat us "handily".

The difference between a high 3 star and a low 4 star can be just one man's opinion looking at stats and highlight clips.

With the portal, it will depend on who can keep the talent on campus.

Welcome to the (new) Big 12 - where the ceiling for virtually all of the conference is beating 2nd tier teams and subsequently claiming dominance. The talent, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines, won't be part of the new look conference at a level at which a team could be competitive with what Alabama and Georgia are currently trotting out.
