He was down 6 players - 5 of which were starters (including the starting QB, the starting RB, and the best defensive player). Most people would be testy in that situation.

I like Gundy, but this isn't a great look. Threatening a reporter's credentials for asking a question that a lot of people have is pretty ****ty. It would be one thing if the question was asked in a disrespectful way, but this really wasn't. It was pretty straight forward.

With NIL and transfer portal, I wonder if any non-CFP bowl games will have any relevancy or interest to the common fan.

Arguably, those absent players are the reason the Pokes lost.

There's no reason he can't answer it. And frankly, no reason he shouldn't. They just had a mass exodus, and it's been reported that OC Casey Dunn -- and Gundy's loyalty to him -- was one major catalyst behind it.

The reporter asked a question virtually all OSU fans want answered and didn't mention specific names in doing so. This was just Gundy being an ass while lecturing others not to.

Your completely ignoring the fact that Wisconsin was also down a boatload of starters… better team won last night

This.

He makes $7.5M per year. He needs to deal with the question.

The questions should be about his recruiting which has fallen off over the last few years.

Got it…you're a fan.

I'm a fan of Mike Gundy and how he deals with media.

I wish he'd have re upped and said I'm a man…I'm 50 when he turned that age.

If reporters only asked questions people in positions of power and influence were comfortable answering, the press would have no utility.

His refusal to answer a direct, difficult question is an answer in itself. And an unwillingness to be held accountable for your decisions and results is a bad look, especially from someone who demands accountability from others.

Like I said, I like Gundy. I think he's one of the most underrated coaches in America. But like a lot of coaches, he doesn't like to be criticized or to have his authority questioned. Getting defensive when asked a fair question after the disastrous season they just had only reinforces this.

No, but slightly more understandable. You wanna be the man, you're gonna have to deal with tough questions. He's compensated for being the man. Time to start acting like it.

The press in general has very little utility anyway, especially the political press. They are more accurately described as propagandists.

Back to the OP, I understand why Gundy didn't answer the question. If he's going to fire someone, he is not going to announce it in a post game press conference. That would be totally classless & unprofessional, especially right after Christmas.

Maybe he could have handled it differently, but any answer or non answer would be interpreted in many ways & create every even more problems. He probably wants to tell the individuals quietly later this week & make a public announcement after the new year begins.

I know every reporter wants a scoop & every fan wants answers now but the real world doesn't work that way. Patience is a virtue.

I think Gundy can be, and often is, a jerk, and all you people defending him are close to the same boat. Plus, all you people, looking at you historian, quoting scripture to boot, who want to trash press people for your partisan agenda over and over, wear me out.

I am thinking of giving up reading these boards, when people will not even talk sports. I would like all to take politics elsewhere, but I am sure it really means I need I am the one who needs to move on.

Gundy is loyal to his staff and players….

It'll be sad when guys like him are gone and all we're left with are the Soy Boys….

Reporters ask so many stupid questions I don't blame coaches for getting snappy. All Gundy needed to say is he'll be evaluating everyone; staff and players and leave it at that. That was not the time to say more than that.

Fans: "Why don't reporters ask these guys tough questions?"

I guess we have to agree to disagree. Gundy may be a jerk at times but I don't think he is any more than most other HC's and a lot less than some.

I don't understand complaining about me having a scripture as my signature. I graduated from Baylor, the largest Baptist university in the country if not the world. Nothing surprising there.

I used the word "political" once & accurately described much of the media as "propagandists" and that bothers you? I really do hope that you don't abandon these boards but if something as mild as that triggers you, then there is likely to be much more that you will find objectionable.

God bless!

I understand your point but I think he was forced into that by his employer. He could have fought it but he never was going to succeed. The national media had jumped on that a bit & the usual suspects were going bananas. It was a stupid complaint & he was the victim there but he made the wise decision.

I would agree on the politics part. It is sad that we have let the talking heads on cable TV and internet hacks and worse our elected "leaders" lead us down a path where everyone needs to take shots at another's tribe, when in fact, if left alone, we all can live in a manner that benefits us all....and if you knew your neighbors voting habits they might very well surprise you, neighbors and friends that you interact with on a daily basis in a positive manner without even thinking about politics.

Now it seems that discussions on a sports board can degrade into conversations about motives of teams, schools, and individuals being political in nature, when in fact such motives have absolutely nothing to do with politics, but with questions and comments based on the situation at hand that should be reasonably expected by anyone and having nothing to do with politics.

This is nonsense. A bad free press is still a significantly and objectively superior alternative to no press.

Your opinion here is more informed by your political leanings than reality. Partisan media sucks, but the are plenty of resources available through which you can learn individual outlets biases, and there are still outlets that try to and, by and large succeed at presenting news in a fair and objective manner. The problem is we live in a media environment that feeds on division and allows us to choose our own reality and declare any news we disagree with fake news.

Other than being unapologetically themselves, I don't think the two have much in common, to be honest. Leach was a different cat, but he was generally pretty easy-going. Gundy is far more surly -- and that side of him has only become more prominent as his job security has grown.

The news media today is openly biased. They don't even tried to hide it anymore. Whether you see it or not, it's there and it's real. That might say just as much about your biases. We all have biases so in a way it's better to have it so open. To pretend they are fair and balanced is to look at it wearing blinders.

Again, there are independent resources available that tell you outlets' biases. It's not hard with that information to account for or ignore those that present slanted news or to find and consume those with less obvious biases.

There's no such thing as "the news media" as you're using it here. Each source is accountable for its own biases and work. Find sources that aren't actively trying to manipulate you. They're out there.
