I guess I will have to go look at FPI for those seasons.

Our defense struggled because they were on the field 40 plus minutes a game due to us scoring at will. It's not speculation that the 15 team was the best team in the land prior to his injury. The dude had 35 TDs through 6 games… really through like 3 since he didn't play most 2nd halves. That team beat a top 10 OSU on the road with their 3rd string QB starting.

KB has been somewhat disappointing as an Offensive coordinator. Yes, flashes of success, but nothing sustained. I truly thought he would be a P5 head coach by now.
When is the Art Briles page going to be added to this site?
And just for all of the Art lovers; with his defenses and special teams play and overall lack of discipline Art was never going to sniff a national title. His tenure ended about how I thought it was going to end. Art has/had a brilliant offensive mind, but please just make it stop. Baylor is so much better without him.

He played nearly the whole game! Briles only carried 2 QBs that year while most Big 12 teams carried 5 or 6 on their roster. Briles should never have allowed Seth to run like that or as much as he did with 2 QBs active.
We gave up 30+ points to 6 teams that year! That my friends is not National Championship caliber play.
Oh, remember my 7th grade coach would not have lost to TCU in the Monsoon Game nor Texas in the Mall Fight Game.

TCU twitter with a completely different tone today in the replies to this tweet. Constant harassment from TCU fans over the years online and at games regarding the Briles scandal at Baylor. But now "it's not that serious" and "he's just meeting with his son". It seemed to be a pretty big deal when you used a horrible incident against the Baylor fanbase. Funny how a narrative flips isn't it. Forget HypnoToad, it's Hypocrites.

Agree - this is the whole point. I can't believe some people are splitting hairs over whether we were a sure fire national championship winner or simply a playoff contender.
We were starting to be in the discussion every year, and our program was on the upswing. It sure was fun while it lasted.
It's bizarre how a handful of posters will argue to the death to discredit any player coach or team from that era. Really strange. I think some of them get alerts when the name Briles is posted

I used to think the '85 & '86 teams were better than the '80 SWC Champs so I quit comparing back then. However, when you have 3 teams go through the regular season with only 1 loss you might want to compare those 3 Baylor teams as best you can.
So, let's look at those three teams (1980, 2013 & 2014).
10-1 is .909
11-1 is .916
1980 finished the regular season #6 but dropped to #13 after getting drilled by Alabama
2013 finished the regular season #9 but dropped to #13 after their bowl game
2014 finished the regular season #5 but dropped to #7 after their bowl game
1980 went UNDEFEATED in conference play
2013 lost 1 conference game
2014 lost 1 conference game
1980 had 12 players selected All-Conference
2013 had 10 players selected All-Conference
2014 had 8 players selected All-Conference
1980 had 3 players drafted in first 7 rounds
2013 had 1 player drafted
2014 had 5 players drafted
1980 had 3 players make All-Pro
2013 had 0
2014 had 0
1980 has 1 player in the pro football HOF
2013 has 0
2014 has 0
I don't care which team is better in your mind. I just want them all to WIN.
Injuries happen to every team. Saying Seth was the missing piece of a potential National Championship would be like me pinning the San Jose State loss on our kicker who missed that game due to an injury. The backup kicker missed kicks from the 6, 22 & 24 yard lines.
As a player who knows firsthand how difficult it is to go undefeated, I too knew that 3 of Art's teams could have done so if only……………we devoted as much time to defense as we did to offense, devoted more time to special teams & instilled a much deeper discipline across all aspects of D1 football. We were so close. I've been there too. So close yet so far.

Your boy hodo something said they were far and away better so I did not want to zero in on Art's teams inability to win out in conference play. 8-1 is good but it's not great. 8-0 is great.
