Another one: There has been discussion of the Pac-12 and ACC saving each other through a merger.

Sources indicating to me and @CFBHeather that the Pac-12 is unlikely to land the plane this morning and get its media rights deal signed on this call today. Multiple variables at play here, including 11th hour Big Ten push for Oregon and Washington. Everything remains fluid. https://t.co/YUm5xStXv7

Yes, but look at the bright side. Cal can continue to ignore athletics for more years without having to change their invite list for the next social.PartyBear said:
The decision by a couple to not jump to the XII now will be as bad a decision as not making the jump to be a super conference in 2010. I suspect Arizona comes on but then the new Pac 8 (its original name and number I believe). Is not going to last very long I dont think and everyone but O and UW will end up as a G5 in the near future.
This is starting to sound like a Oreg and Wash push to try to get a better deal from B10 with a dash of ASU stupidity.gobears20 said:

A Big 10 call has been scheduled for today to discuss Oregon and Washington.

Pac-12 unable to get Grant of Rights signed this morning & "nothing has changed" as far as Oregon & Washington joining Big Ten, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Ducks & Huskies still expected to be Big Ten bound when finances are worked out, sources said

Of course it is. And provide them with optionality and leverage. If remaining 4 corners leave, they go hat in hand to B10 for alms. If 4 corners stay, they patch the conference together and negotiate if they don't get the deal they like. Pretty much exact replay of what happened with B12 a decade ago.BearFan33 said:This is starting to sound like a Oreg and Wash push to try to get a better deal from B10 with a dash of ASU stupidity.gobears20 said:

It’s a roller coaster: Minutes before Pac-12 presidents meeting was scheduled to begin, Oregon officials expressed further concerns about Apple deal, sources tell @YahooSports.

Pac-12 now not expected to resolve GoR this morning. @ralphDrussoAP reported a Big Ten meeting later.
It's evil but he should let it leak that he is on the phone with other PAC members.gobears20 said:

Forget Utah and ASU and give a deal to OSU and Washington State

Arizona and Arizona State are still on track to join the Big 12.
ASU President Michael Crow is proving to be a stumbling block, but parties involved are confident it can be overcome.

Having grown up in Big 8 land in the 70s, not sure I agree. It was completely top heavy and played boring football that somehow often ended in blowouts. I always thought the Pac 8 back then was the ****, ironicallyABC BEAR said:It was the best FB conference in the country during the 1970'sgobears20 said:

The Sooners, Huskers and Buff's were boring? The annual OU-Nebraska game had national title implications nearly every year.GoodOleBaylorLine said:Having grown up in Big 8 land in the 70s, not sure I agree. Yeah. The wishbone was boring. Nebraska was basically a huge o line and some skills players they had "borrowed" from jail. It was not interesting football.ABC BEAR said:The Sooners, Huskers and Buff's were boring? Ironically, fifty years ago the talk was about how Colorado was a better fit for the PAC-8 academically and culturally. If you live long enough the swinging door eventually hits you in the ass on your way out.GoodOleBaylorLine said:Yeah. The wishbone was boring. In fact, we often went for a drive on Saturdays to listen to the OU game on the radio. Missed nothing in translation from TV.
Colo was still an afterthought mostly. You're probably thinking of the 80s. Big 8 got better as a conference then I think
From 1970 thru 1988, the only 2 seasons where OU and Nebraska didn't finish 1-2 in the Big 8 were 1976 (OU, CU and OkSt tied for title, Nebraska 4th) and 1986 (CU finished 2nd and Nebraska 3rd). The only two teams other than OU and Nebraska to finish in the top 10 were CU #3 in 1971 (behind Nebraska and OU) and OkSt #7 in 1984.ABC BEAR said:It was the best FB conference in the country during the 1970'sgobears20 said:

50 years ago? Maybe 20 or 25. In 1973, Colo was basically western KS. They grew wheat right up to the edge of Denver.ABC BEAR said:Ironically, fifty years ago the talk was about how Colorado was a better fit for the PAC-8 academically and culturally. Theoretically. They still have a game inventory, and there are still parties that want to broadcast it. No agreement on priceJohnny Bear said:
If it is true that the Apple deal expires at midnight today if still unsigned, then the PAC (whatever still might be left of it by then) has absolutely nothing as far as media options go at that point - right??
