LOL - Dominic Richardson was a "hot hand" last Saturday? So one yard gains and getting firmly planted on your back is a "hot hand"? I'm not faulting him personally because it isn't his fault he had an OLine that whiffed on blocks constantly, but that's a really weird thing for Aranda to say.

Shapen out 2-3 weeks. Hate it for him, he didn't play bad, but there needs to be a major reset of some kind regardless. A rebirth of sorts.

Maybe this was already talked about, but why was Blake Shapen's left pant leg cut off all the way up mid-thigh when the game started? It was the oddest looking thing. It makes me think that he was either getting treatment on that leg or had a brace on it that he took off before the game. Was his knee a problem even before the game? Anybody know what that was all about?
Dave Aranda says there's a "contagious spirit" about Sawyer Robertson that gives the team confidence in him as the starter this week against Utah.

Natural immunity, or are you social distancing from the Bears right now?Married A Horn said:
I have not caught that contagious spirit.
I'm starting to think he had problems even before the game, maybe from practice earlier in the week. That would explain his pants being cut so high up on that same leg, as if they were making room for a brace. If this the case, I don't understand the decision to let him go out there with NOTHING on his knee to begin the game, not so much as even a kneepad. I'm wondering if during the press conference this was even brought up. Does anyone have any info?buparent2025 said:
I don't go to many games but I was at the game Saturday and noticed that he looked gimpy a bit in the first half as well. I actually thought he got hurt on his TD run as he took a pretty solid hit to his back after he scored the touchdown. Obviously that was a different part of the body.
He played well under the circumstances, but hopping around on your right foot before making a throw is not really the best technique for throwing a football. Personally, I would think it would be silly to rush him back for the Texas game. The best case scenario is having him ready for UCF. You certainly don't need him for LIU.
He definitely looked like he was very uncomfortable when he got up after that play and walked back slowly.buparent2025 said:

What do we have behind Sawyer Robertson if he goes down (I prolly should've said when he goes down)?
The receivers were good too. The passing production in general was encouraging, particularly given how bad the protection was. It's a shame we couldn't run at all and our defense was a no-show.EvilTroyAndAbed said:ImABearToo said:

He didn't play bad??? He was exceptional. It was everyone around him that stunk.

Well, the late great Coach Leach did recruit this kid for MSU....so I am going to have some faith that he will help rescue some of the season...gobears20 said:Dave Aranda says there's a "contagious spirit" about Sawyer Robertson that gives the team confidence in him as the starter this week against Utah.

Do you realize that Shapen had the 2nd bet QB rating in the country last week? Shapen was not the problem.Killing Floor said:
And yet Martinez carried that FCS team to a fluff game victory over a Power 5 opponent. And has Kylar Murray's HS pass record. And is substantially better than Shapin. And time will bear that out.
And we're having this conversation because we lost our safe game. If he gets a chance he'll make it worthwhile.
This. We can nitpick the offense and quibble over stylistic preferences, but the fact of the matter is the offense has been significantly more effective and consistent than the defense has since the start of the 2022 season. And that's not what you expect or should be willing to accept when you hire a successful defensive coordinator as your head coach.Bearwhiz said:
He needs to start answering questions about his putrid defense.. they were terrible last year and look worse this year.
Shapen was fantastic last week, despite arguably the worst performance by a Baylor offensive line since the Kevin Steele era.Killing Floor said:
You definitely realize this loss was historic.
I'm not defending this hill with fantasy points.
Shapin was the 2nd best quarterback on the field and the 3rd best on our roster. His complete season last year was 18 TD, 10 Int behind a much better line. That's pretty much peak. But it's not my decision and I will be cheering regardless.

Not sure if you noticed on Saturday night, but this team is 1-11 regardless of health.
