Shapen outplayed Finley. Finley was good but suffered little pressure and gave the ball to Baylor on a fumble that was completely his fault, it just slipped out of his hands untouched. He did deal a couple drops but also had a couple misfires and got bailed out on a couple times by his receivers.

Shapen had zero help up front which also made the run game futile so took away play action. Being hobbled on one leg made boots and zone reads impossible.

Shapen played his best game. He was arguably the best player on the field. Football is a team sport though so however heroic he was it didn't matter. Tech was 5-7 with Mahomes. Gotta play defense.

So that 2016 TTU season you're pointing to, Mahomes threw over 5,000 completed yards and threw for 41 touchdowns compared to our guy's 2,700 and 18 TDs last season. Probably not a great comparison.
If Shapin can throw 5,000 yards and over 40 TD I really wouldn't be bothered by that. Just saying.

Ahh yes, point out Mahomes had better stats. Yes he did and Tech still went 5-7, which was my point. Your beloved Martinez could be a gamer and I hope he is because he may get some reps Saturday… but it doesn't matter if he faces the same pressure Shapen did. No offense can operate with an o-line that gets a 42 PFF grade. China Springs o-line could probably generate that and they're all in high school. Derrick Henry would've struggled running behind that line and Aaron Rodgers would've been bleeding out both elbows like Shapen.

killing floor, are you a relative of RJ Martinez by any chance?

Honestly, if he comes in I hope he looks amazing like you're saying

No. No affiliation.

But I do know there is exactly 1 6A HS team in central Texas who's AD does not engage with recruiting collegiate coaches. Westwood's Anthony Wood simply won't take their calls. So in that small sample size it's safe to assume a young man who took UIL records from 2 current NFL starters and Heisman winners would be on his own to try to play in college. Therefore, in this case an FCS start doesn't specifically rule out talent.

We're all rooting for the Bears whoever is in the lid on game day.

Well his stats weren't that great at the fcs level, I'm starting to think this is a troll
