This is what I fear about Aranda. He gets stuck on a player, even if the player is not performing. I get the feeling he is more happy about a poor player making incremental improvements over a win.

Mark my words, he will push Robertson and we are not seeing Shapen again for close to a month...

Shapen will be back in his starting role the second he's cleared to play. This is a coach trying to project and build confidence in an overwhelmed backup -- nothing more, nothing less.

Let's see when that is.

I say it will be Oct 21st versus Cinn, to take advantage of the buy to get him more time to recover.

"It's really nice to see you"

"We made some really big steps Saturday against a top 5 NEC FCS team (true, they're 5th in conference at 0-3). We are feeling really good about the chance to show our gains when Texas comes to Waco.
Don't panic but does anyone in the press have football experience and a year of eligibility?"

Appreciate that.

If you're saying he might not be cleared to play for a while, I don't necessarily disagree. You can't trust college coaches' word for **** when it comes to injury timelines.

But if you're saying that he won't be on the field once he's cleared, I would vehemently disagree. Shapen is our QB1 for better or worse.

Why does it bother y'all that Dave Aranda is a good, kind man?

There are legitimate, job-related concerns about his performance and potential as a Power 5 head football coach. Let's talk about those and leave the personal stuff out.

We're not losing games because Dave Aranda is friendly to the media.

I don't think it is anything personally. It is that the program is perceived to be in trouble and there is no sense of urgency or even recognition. Being nice doesn't make up the difference, does that make sense?

But it doesn't make a difference either. I'd rather focus on the things that do. There are enough of those to talk about without picking apart the personality of a guy who isn't trying ruin our fall Saturdays.

Dave Aranda wasn't my first choice when he was hired, and I've been critical at times of his preparedness -- or his team's lack thereof. But he's a good man who is trying his best to make the adjustments needed to turn this season around. Whether he does or does not, it's possible to appreciate the man he is while still having and expressing concerns about his ability as a head coach and motivator.

I don't blame those who have lost confidence in Dave Aranda's ability to lead our program where we want it to be. I just think you can feel that way and express it without getting petty and personal. And I would prefer that we, as a fanbase, did.

Well, since he has been here

BU seems to be in the bottom 1/4 or so for Fewest Penalties
the QB room is empty and several have left
Other position groups have lost players that did contribute and show promise in games

His temperament and coaching style is relevant. Something he is doing is not working in player development and discipline on the field. Is there accountability?

I think all of those are fair, relevant criticisms. Getting pissy because he says "I appreciate the question" in press conferences is not IMO.

That's just childish lashing out.

I am with you there. I also don't expect him to get emotional in a interview. What I would like to see is some sign of toughness and resiliency. I know he is not the cold CEO like Saban and don't expect it. But, some indication that the team will run through a wall for him would be nice. Right now, they just look blah....

Everyone was very excited about winning the B12 and Sugar Bowl. We were expecting at worst a small step back the next year but instead wound up having a losing record by the end of the season. Now it looks like we are continuing to head in the wrong direction. People are taking out their disappointment on Dave's personality. This all goes away if we are winning.

I think Dave obviously wants to win and is upset about losing, but he's not going to show it. As for feeling "pressured" to win, I don't think that he does feel that his seat is hot. I suspect we could lose out the rest of the season, and he would still be the coach next year.

That's what everyone wanted right? Crowd even chanted sawyer sawyer in. Game 1

That's fair. I love that he's a good guy. It's irritating that he starts every sentence with "appreciate that" because it suggests he's blowing off the reality that it's a different question from the last one. It's no different than when the car lot salesperson starts every sentence with your name.

this is 100% accurate. he's gotta come out there and say this but shapen is the guy when he's healthy enough to be the guy.

Seems to be the problem doesn't it, when he's healthy enough.

I was gonna say the problem is when he's healthy we lose those games. But maybe this next time he's healthy he'll be better at sports.

haha yes. grimes play-calling and shapen's inability to make decisions to protect himself and stay on the field more than a couple quarters in a row is what it is. so sawyer and rj...next man up while shapen recovers. and then we rinse repeat when shapen comes back and can start.

Kevin Steele was a nice/good guy too…who created the ptsd that clouds the minds of any BU fan who lived through his years of coaching. History has a way of repeating itself for those who do not learn from it.

Anyone who compares the Dave Aranda era to the Kevin Steele era either didn't live through the Kevin Steele era or has a very short memory.

He did put in place the internal improvements that allowed coaches after him to have success.
